Ye Xinyue’s hands trembled at his words. She looked at her son, her voice gentle yet urgent, "Ah Lin, if you come to the city, you will have access to better schools and more opportunities. You will meet new friends, and I will be there to take care of you."
She paused, then asked with teary eyes, "Don’t you want to live with me? Do you still blame me for not coming back for so many years?"
Hearing this, Feng Lin realized he no longer felt the anger or resentment he once harbored toward his mother.
After thinking it through, he understood that his mother had been a victim too. It wasn’t her fault she had lost her memory. She had every right to remarry and find happiness after she divorced her ex-husband.
Even though he was her son, he couldn’t demand that she remain alone just because he couldn’t accept another man as his father. But even though he no longer blamed her, he still couldn’t bring himself to leave his grandparents.
After a long pause, he finally spoke, "Mother, what happened back then wasn’t your fault. I don’t blame you anymore."
The room fell silent in shock. Even He Xieyu looked at Feng Lin with mild surprise.
He had expected the boy to throw a tantrum, make demands, or at the very least, show hostility. Unexpectedly, he sat there, calmly facing them.
At this moment, he seemed more mature than some of He Xieyu’s own nieces and nephews who had grown up in the city and received the best education.
"Y-you don’t blame me anymore?" Ye Xinyue asked, her voice trembling.
Feng Lin let out a quiet sigh and replied, "Mother, you lost your memory in an accident. It wasn’t your intention to leave without a word. I have thought it through—every debt has a debtor. The one I should hate isn’t you, nor my father."
"Then why won’t you come live with me?" she asked again.
"Mother, you have Uncle He to protect and accompany you now. You also have my half-siblings. Even if I don’t live with you, you won’t be alone," Feng Lin said with a gentle smile.
Then, turning to his grandparents, he added, "But it’s different for my grandparents. They only have me. If I leave, who will take care of them?"
"They were the ones who raised me and cared for me. Despite their difficult circumstances, they always gave me the best they could. They would rather go hungry themselves than let me miss a meal."

Taking a deep breath, he looked back at his mother and said firmly, "Mother, thank you for giving birth to me, and I apologize that I can’t be filial to you. But I can’t, and I won’t, go with you. My surname is Feng, and it’s my responsibility—and my choice—to be filial to my grandparents."
"Even if Xiao Lin doesn’t live with us, he will always be your son. You can write to him and visit during the holidays. We can also send money, clothes, or food to support him," he reassured her.
Ye Xinyue looked at her husband’s gentle smile but remained silent. She knew that once he said these words, there was no changing it.
Deep down, she also understood that while He Xieyu had agreed to accept her son, he would always prioritize his own children. After all, Feng Lin was another man’s child. No matter how generous her husband was, it was impossible for him to feel nothing when he looked at Feng Lin.
She turned to her son, her heart aching. She knew he had made this decision for her sake. Her little baby had grown so much, and she had lost so many years with him. Now, even if she wanted to rebuild their bond, the distance between them felt too vast.
Sensing his mother’s emotions, Feng Lin stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her. It was the first time he had hugged her in years.
Ye Xinyue froze in shock. But when she felt his small palm gently patting her back, her tears finally rolled down her cheeks.
"My baby… Mother is so sorry," she sobbed.
Feng Lin continued to pat her back softly and comforted her, "Mother, it’s okay. I will write to you every month. If you miss me, you can come to visit. And when I grow up, I will visit you." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
