Love in the Limelight novel Chapter 571

"Grab a bite and try to get some rest," Elio suggested gently, urging Astrid to eat.

She was utterly exhausted, and her appetite was practically nonexistent. After picking at her food for a bit, Astrid slumped on the couch and drifted into sleep.

Elio draped a blanket over her, switched his phone to silent mode, and sat by her side, watching her sleep. Before long, his phone vibrated with an incoming call from Roman. He hesitated for a moment, then answered, and Roman's voice came through, cold and direct, "Elio, can I video call mom?"

"No, Roman. Your mom is exhausted and she's asleep. Why are you still awake this late?" Elio replied.

Roman's tone shifted slightly, "Oh, it's Lucas. Lucas Lampard isn't feeling well. The doctors have checked him but can't figure it out. I was hoping mom could take a look."

Elio paused, his fingers hovering over the phone. If Roman was reaching out at this hour, it had to be serious.

"Is that Roman?" Astrid mumbled, barely awake but somehow aware of the conversation. She reached for the phone, "What's going on, Roman?"

"Mom, Lucas Lampard is really unwell. Can I start a video call so you can see him?" Roman asked.

"Okay," Astrid agreed, her drowsiness evaporating as she ended the call and Roman's video came through almost immediately.

The scene was chaotic. Doctors surrounded Lucas, attempting to stabilize him, but he was convulsing, and several wounds on his body had reopened.

It had been long enough that Lucas's injuries should have been healing. How had things deteriorated so quickly? Moreover, his mental state seemed off.

Seeing Lucas's bloodied state, Astrid felt a pang of sympathy. "Dr. Walter, tie Lucas down, treat his wounds, and only give him water. Nothing else."

"Understood," Dr. Walter nodded. "Mrs. Anderson, you know this toxin better than anyone. Is there anything that can ease Lucas's suffering?"

Astrid frowned at the implication, "Dr. Walter, why do you think I know about this toxin?"

"Years ago, your mother was injected with this same substance. Your father found a way to help her recover, so I assumed you might know something," Dr. Walter explained.

His words hit Astrid like a thunderclap, leaving her momentarily stunned.
