Love Beyond the Mask novel Chapter 1295

In the nursery, only the bedside lamp was on, casting a soft glow over the crib. The gentle light shimmered across the incubator, and even the baby’s cries sounded sweet and innocent in the peaceful room.

Whitney’s heart felt tender and warm. From experience, she could tell the little one wasn’t hurt—she was just a bit hungry and asking for milk.

She exchanged a glance with the family doctor, her lips curling into a gentle, affectionate smile. “Her temperature okay?”

“Yes, Mrs. Lippert, it’s perfectly normal,” the doctor replied, a little too formally. “I’ve already asked the nanny to prepare her formula.”

He seemed a bit embarrassed. “I’m sorry her crying disturbed your dinner.”

Even though the Lippert family doctor had come out of retirement to help, he still kept to strict old-school etiquette.

Whitney noticed his nervousness but didn’t bother correcting his overly formal address.

She waved a hand. “No need to be so uptight. Just take good care of her and let us know right away if anything comes up.”

“Thank you, you’re very kind. The little one is just like you already.”

He tucked the soft blanket around the baby and smiled, offering the compliment.

Whitney glanced down at her daughter, unsure if the doctor was just being polite or genuinely meant it. After all, the baby did share her genes—maybe she really would take after her.

She couldn’t remember much about what she’d been like as a child, but she did remember how tough things had been when Sammy was born. That had been after all the chaos, escaping overseas with wounds both physical and emotional. Sammy had clung to her desperately, the only person who made him feel safe.

Boys and girls really were different, weren’t they? Even though Sammy had always been frail, when he was hungry, he made sure everyone knew it. His wails could rattle the windows.

But this little girl? She was something else entirely.

Was she really this much of an angel? Her tiny cries just made Whitney’s heart melt.

She was too cute, too soft—impossible not to love.
