The weight of the simple stick in Noah’s hands carried more significance than any weapon he had ever held.
It wasn’t its physical properties...the smooth white wood felt no different from any branch one might find beside a country road. It was the potential within it, the terrible authority to force understanding upon those who might prefer ignorance.
His contemplation was interrupted by a sudden surge of movement in the Leviathan’s Eternum Cage.
|Alert: Eminent Early Living Marine Lifeform Successfully Captured!|
|Species: Crimson-Eyed Depth Tyrant|:: Classification: Apex Predator of Abyssal Trenches. Threat Level: Can overwhelm standard Prime Living Existences. Nutritional Value: Equivalent to 127 Refined Marine Lifeforms.
One of the golden fishing lines suddenly went taut, its crystalline structure humming with strain as something massive fought against its pull. The line blazed brighter, reality bending around it as it hauled its catch across dimensional boundaries with inexorable force.
The Early Sacred Waters in the Cage began to churn, whirlpools forming as space itself was forced to accommodate what was being dragged through.
Then it breached.
The creature that erupted into the Cage was magnificence and terror combined. Its scales were obsidian plates that seemed to absorb light, each one inscribed with natural Glyphs that pulsed with Eminent authority!
Its body was serpentine yet muscled, suggesting both fluidity and devastating power. But it was the eyes that commanded attention...crimson orbs that burned with intelligence far exceeding what one expected from a "mere" Marine Lifeform.
The Crimson-Eyed Depth Tyrant took one look at Noah floating in its new prison and immediately recognized what he was. Not the specifics, perhaps, but the fundamental truth that here was something that existed at the apex of all food chains. Its response was instant and decisive...attack before being attacked, establish dominance before becoming prey.
It rushed toward him with speed that compressed the Sacred Waters into visible shock waves, its maw opening to reveal rows of teeth that existed in several dimensions simultaneously. Hundreds of Refined and Eminent Glyphs blazed along its form, each one adding layers of authority to its assault!
Noah blinked at the approaching devastation with the calm of someone watching a particularly aggressive puppy charge. His hand tightened slightly on the Goad, and he made a simple motion...a casual swipe through the water, the kind of gesture one might use to brush away a fly.
PAH!
The sound that resulted shouldn’t have been possible underwater, yet it rang with crystalline clarity. The stick connected with the Tyrant’s scales with force that had nothing to do with physical impact. Its accumulated authority, those hundreds of Glyphs that should have made it nearly invulnerable, simply... didn’t matter!
They might as well have been decorative paintings for all the protection they provided.
The Marine Lifeform’s charge reversed instantly, its massive form driven backward through the water with such force that it created a temporary vacuum.
But more than the physical repulsion, it was the expression in those crimson eyes that told the true story. Shock gave way to horror, horror transformed into primal fear.
Because in that moment of contact, the Goad had done what it was designed to do...it had educated.
Above the trembling creature’s head, words materialized in the water itself, visible only to it and Noah.
|Truth of Existence Revealed: You exist to become nourishment for an Early Creature. Your entire evolutionary line, millions of years of development, all led to this moment where you would provide sustenance to one who stands above the food chain itself. This is not tragedy...this is purpose fulfilled.|
HUUM!
The Tyrant’s trembling intensified as this fundamental truth settled into its consciousness. It had always known it was predator, had defined itself by what it consumed. To suddenly understand that it had always been prey, just prey for something so far above it that the concept hadn’t existed in its limited worldview... the revelation was shattering.
Noah observed its fearful form with something approaching sympathy. He beckoned toward it with his free hand, a simple gesture that somehow carried more command than any roar or threat could have achieved.
The Marine Lifeform approached with the tentative movements of something that had just learned its place in existence. When it reached him, Noah patted its massive head with genuine fondness, his laughter echoing through the Sacred Waters.
