After her father's death, Cornelia couldn't sleep at night. Even when she did manage to doze off, nightmares would jolt her awake. Only when she was nestled in her grandma's arms, listening to her lullabies, could she get a bit more sleep.
"Grandma..."
"Mhm?"
"Grandma..."
"Nelly, I'm here..." Granny Rebecca knew what Cornelia was getting at. Every time she called out, Granny Rebecca would answer, doing everything she could to soothe her.
"Grandma, let's go to sleep."
"Alright, let's sleep."
Perhaps because she felt at ease, it didn't take long before Cornelia fell asleep.
Granny Rebecca looked at her resting face, lightly stroking it. "Silly girl, so many years have passed and you haven't changed a bit. When you're scared, you still want to sleep with grandma."
Granny Rebecca shifted slightly due to an uncomfortable sitting position, and this movement made Cornelia suddenly open her eyes and mumble, "Grandma..."
"Grandma's here, Nelly dear. Go back to sleep."
"Grandma, you can't leave me alone, please..." In her dream, Cornelia was still murmuring, clutching tightly onto her grandma's clothes, scared that she would leave her.
"Silly girl!" Granny Rebecca sighed.
...
Maybe it was her grandma's scent, or the comfort of her embrace, but Cornelia slept deeply this time, only waking up in the afternoon. She opened her eyes to two huge faces in front of her, which made her jolt upright. "Grandma, Patricia, what are you guys doing here?"
At the mention of Marcus, Cornelia looked around. Not seeing him made her feel a bit disappointed. He had confessed his feelings, but now he was nowhere to be found. It would make sense if it was a workday, but it was Sunday and she knew he didn't have any plans.
"Nelly, are you looking for Marc?" Granny Luisa was quick to notice. "Marc has some things to handle. He'll come to see you after he's done."
"I'm not looking for him. With you and Patricia here, how could I possibly have time to look for him?" Cornelia retorted.
"Alright then, let's not talk about him. Patricia and the others have prepared a lot of delicious food. Get up, freshen up, and let's have a meal together." Granny Luisa suggested.
Cornelia checked the time. It was already close to two in the afternoon. "Grandma, haven't you guys eaten yet? Are you waiting for me? You don't have to. Go ahead, don't starve yourselves."
"We wouldn't be so foolish. If we were hungry, we would have eaten. We're not waiting for you specifically. We just had a late breakfast, so we aren't hungry yet. That's why we're waiting for you." Granny Luisa explained.
Cornelia was speechless. Alright, they were all sharp as tacks. She was the only slowpoke here.
