"We shouldn't feel ashamed just because you're the victim. The idea of blaming the victim is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. The ones who should be shamed, blamed, and punished by law are those abusers."
Cornelia looked at him, listening to his deep voice. It felt like she was back to a year ago when she was sexually harassed at work. He told her the same thing then.
She wasn't wrong, but the one who harassed her was.
This society was often incredibly unfair to women. For instance, when a girl was secretly photographed and the pictures were uploaded online, the ones who should be blamed were those taking and spreading the photos. But instead, people online blamed the girl for dressing too provocatively, saying that if she wore pants instead of a skirt, no one would take her picture.
Cornelia took a deep breath and buried her head in his chest, "Why didn't you hug me? Do you know how scared I was just now?”
He probably had no idea how scared she was. She was afraid he would be like Roman, judging her as a loose woman and decide to divorce her.
Marcus caught her as she leaned into him, holding her tight, "I'm sorry!"
Cornelia wriggled in his arms, "Stop saying sorry!"
"Hey, what are you two up to? Surely you haven't been hugging all afternoon?" Zack, just waking up and still a bit groggy, was heading to the kitchen to get some water. As he passed Cornelia's room, he saw them hugging through the slightly ajar door, and he felt a pang of jealousy, "You could at least shut the door if you're gonna cuddle, why'd you let me see?"
Cornelia lifted her head from Marcus' chest, "You're awake? Your head still hurts? Are you hungry? What do you want for dinner?"
Noticing the redness around Cornelia's eyes, Zack immediately became worried, "Did you cry? Did Marcus bully you?"
Cornelia replied, "I've told you so many times, he's been really good to me, and wouldn't bully me, why don't you believe me?"
Two hours earlier.
The Hartley family's old mansion welcomed two long-lost guests. The guests were Roman and his mother, Sabrina.
Granny Luisa had always been very kind, especially to friends she hadn't seen in a long time. When she heard that they were coming, Granny Luisa had food and drinks prepared, and she personally went to the gate to welcome them.
Upon seeing Granny Luisa, Sabrina immediately gave her a big hug, "Madam, I've missed you so much!"
Granny Luisa replied with a smile, "I've missed you too. Is this Roman? It's been so many years, the boy's all grown up now. What does he do for a living?"
