Clair asked: "What's up? Spill the beans."
Cameron replied: "Guess what, someone's been seen sporting a fake version of your necklace."
Clair asked: "Who?"
Cameron replied: "Marcus' assistant, that woman named Cornelia."
The name "Cornelia" stabbed into Clair's heart like a thorn, making her teeth clench in rage. "Her again. Why is it always her?"
Cameron asked: "What's your game plan?"
Clair shot back: "If she's the one wearing the fake, then it's her embarrassment, not mine. What's it to me?"
Cameron replied: "I like the way you think."
Clair sneered: "That woman won't get another chance. I'll make sure she leaves Riverton and never comes back."
Cameron stated: "Dad's point is, either we, the Reese family, face embarrassment tonight, or she does. You decide."
Clair replied: "Got it."
For over two decades, she had met all sorts of people and done all sorts of things to keep her footing in Riverton, to preserve her status as Mrs. Reese.
Dealing with a young girl? Piece of cake.
...
Tonight, the spotlight was on the Reese family. Everyone else was just a sideshow. Unless someone deliberately tried to steal the scene, they would hardly be noticed.
Granger's face turned green, but Marcus just said indifferently, "Mr. Reese, happy birthday!"
The title "Mr. Reese" sounded strangely formal.
Granger was inwardly frustrated, but he didn't dare show his anger. "Your concern is appreciated."
He glanced at Cameron, "Marc, I'll have Cameron keep you company. I have to greet the other guests, but I'll catch up with you for a drink later."
Granger finished talking, but Marcus didn't seem interested in entertaining him at all.
A man who would abandon his wife for a mistress couldn't be anything good.
Marcus detested such people the most.
