Ryan couldn't understand why I trusted Steven so much. “You just wait. I'm going to keep an eye on that Queena and find out what's really going on between them. Then you'll see Steven's true colors.”
I wasn't in the mood to deal with him, so I let him do as he pleased.
The next day, however, Ryan brought me some bombshell news: Queena had escaped at the airport.
I looked at him in alarm. “Have they found her?”
Ryan shook his head. “I bet Steven planned this all along. First, he lies to you about sending her away, then he secretly lets her go at the airport. They're probably off on a date somewhere right now!”
My brow furrowed. If only it were that simple.
With Queena on the loose, Steven was probably just as worried as I was. “Try to find her,” I urged Ryan, my voice tense. “See if you can figure out where she went.”
Ryan was dismissive. “You shouldn't be looking for her. You should be looking for Steven, so you can beat him up and tell him to get lost.”
My expression turned serious. “Forget about that for now. Just find Queena.”
Ryan didn't quite understand, but he nodded anyway. “Don't worry, I'll find her.”
I had slept poorly the night before, consumed by worry, so I decided to stay home and catch up on sleep instead of visiting Steven.
In a drowsy haze, I felt a warm presence beside me. I slowly opened my eyes to the sight of Steven's handsome face, and my eyes shot wide open. “What are you doing here?”
I glanced around, confirming I was still in Uncle Julian's house.
Steven looked at me with gentle eyes. “Uncle Julian let me come up. Zephyra, he's accepted me.”
