I Walked Away And He Lost His Mind (Zephyra and Steven) novel Chapter 809

My expression stiffened. I was becoming more and more convinced that Steven had lost his mind.

He was the one who crashed my wedding to Horace, and everyone knew we had broken up. Why would he possibly think I'd run off to another country with him now?

Or did he just see me as some fickle, untrustworthy person?

When I didn't answer, Steven suddenly took my hand, his voice tinged with a hint of grievance.

“You can't leave with him. I won't allow it.”

I flinched slightly, frowning without realizing it. His hand was as cold as a block of ice.

I looked up at him and noticed for the first time that his lips were pale. “Are you an idiot? Why didn't you wait in the car?”

As if sensing how cold he was, Steven let go of my hand and forced a smile. “I was afraid you wouldn't see me if I was in the car…”

Seeing him smile just made me angrier. “So you decided to stand out here and torture yourself?” I said, my face cold.

Seeing that I was genuinely upset, the smile faded from Steven's face, though his gaze remained soft. “No, I was in the car at first. I just got out a little while ago.”

Steven said it so casually, but I was too stunned to speak.

I finally understood how he managed the Lancaster Group so successfully. He wasn't just ruthless with others; he was even more ruthless with himself.

A cold gust of wind blew past, and I pulled my coat tighter. “Well, if you're not cold, then feel free to stay out here!”

With that, I turned to leave, but Steven moved to block my path.

I shot him a cold glare and tried to step around him, but he was like a mobile barricade, blocking me no matter which way I moved.

I looked up, glaring at him, and was just about to speak when he suddenly sneezed.

My expression softened, my anger dissipating. “Just go back to the manor,” I said quietly.

Steven rubbed his temples. “I'm fine. As long as you're here, I'm not going anywhere.”

“…”

Looking at his pale face, I sighed in exasperation. “Go home and rest. You can come back tomorrow.”

Fearing he might misunderstand, I quickly added, “Don't collapse on my uncle's doorstep. It would reflect poorly on him if word got out.”

Steven's lips curved slightly. “If you're really worried about me collapsing here, then come back with me. I can't sleep at night when you're not by my side.”

My eyelid twitched. I didn't know whether to laugh or be angry. “Steven, you should at least try to make your lies believable. I've only been at my uncle's for two days, and besides…”

I was about to say that we had slept in the same bed just last night, but I caught myself mid-sentence, realizing how that sounded.
