I Only Want You novel Chapter 99

As soon as Elizabeth Liang finished her part-time job at Kuture, she rushed to the cafe where Charlotte Dong wanted to meet up with her.

Just as she walked to the door, she was in such a hurry to go inside that she unexpectedly bumped into someone who was coming out.

"I'm sorry." A gentle male voice spoke by her ear, and he even chivalrously reached out to hold her.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry..." Elizabeth apologized profusely before looking up. "Doctor Bai?"

Isaac Bai looked at her and realized that she was his good friend's new wife.

"Sis?" Isaac raised one eyebrow. "Why are you here?"

"Um..." Elizabeth smiled awkwardly. "I'm meeting someone here."

"Oh, I see." Isaac nodded. "Go ahead."

Elizabeth wanted to ask him if he knew where James Lu was, but after some thought, she decided against it. She didn't want others to laugh at her for not knowing her lawfully- wedded husband's whereabouts and having to ask his friends about where he went.

She was about to leave after saying goodbye to Isaac, but was stopped by him—

"Hey, sis," Isaac immediately hesitated after speaking, "Do you mind if I call you that? Uh... Jimmy's younger than me, and..."

Elizabeth was surprised by what Isaac called her. Although she thought that it was reasonable, it was still a little embarrassing. Her fair little face blushed. "No, not at all!" She waved her hand as she spoke to prove that she really didn't mind.

Amused, Isaac chuckled out loud. "You're really..." Cute!

He didn't say the rest, because it was rather inappropriate.

"Are you feeling better?" As a doctor and that guy's friend, it was a lot easier for him to say this.

"Huh?" For a moment Elizabeth didn't quite understand what he was asking.

"You know... after what happened to you?" Isaac didn't want to be too direct considering that she was a girl.

"Oh!" Elizabeth realized what he was talking about, then her little face turned even redder. "I'm fine now, thanks for asking." With this, she couldn't help but ask, "Um... Doctor Bai, how... did you know..." Her voice became quieter and quieter as she spoke.

"Jimmy told me to go to your house."

Elizabeth's heart jumped. "You mean... you were the one who got rid of the..."

"Yeah, you were fine after an injection and a drip."

"So..." Elizabeth bit her lip. "That means that it had nothing to do with James, right?"

Her question seemed random, but Isaac was smart enough to instantly figure out what she was trying to say after some quick thinking. He smiled softly and said, "How could it have nothing to do with him?"

He immediately caught the clear disappointment and defeat on Elizabeth's face.

Isaac raised his eyebrows and stopped keeping her in suspense. "Do you know what would've happened to you if he hadn't called me? You have no idea how serious your situation was at the time! He didn't want to do it himself... but also didn't want to take you to the hospital. He said that he didn't want others to see you in your state..."

"You're saying he... I..." Elizabeth was so emotional that she couldn't form a complete sentence.

The question that she had been agonizing over all day was solved in an instant. Her heart immediately felt relieved, and also extremely warm, knowing how James had treated her.

Isaac asked, "Are you guys fighting just because of this misunderstanding?"

Elizabeth was so embarrassed by the question that she didn't know what to do. She only smiled stupidly in response. "You... you know that we're fighting?"

"Of course I do! Jimmy was mad about it forever, and then he decided to just go on a business trip. He's so immature!" Isaac couldn't help but shake his head in disdain.

"A business trip?!"

"Jimmy went on a trip to America last night. What, you didn't know?"

"..." Elizabeth sullenly shook her head. Looks like James was really angry. He didn't even tell her before going so far away.

"That d*ckhead! Hey, just a piece of advice from brother to sister, make sure you talk things out face to face, it would be really stupid and unnecessary to torture yourselves over a misunderstanding like this, don't you agree?" After saying that, Isaac smiled a little and said, "Well then, be on your way. It's time for me to go to work."

Charlotte had not yet arrived.

Elizabeth found a random seat by the window to sit on. The air conditioner was strong, making the inside of the cafe feel like a different world from the scorching weather outside.

Elizabeth was lost in thought as she watched the passerbys outside of the window.

What was wrong with her? She was always pretty good at restraining herself, so why didn't she just question Charlotte about everything yesterday? If James wasn't pissed enough before, he's going to lose his mind now.

Charlotte looked at the coffee in front of her and then glanced at the orange juice on Elizabeth's side. She smiled contemptuously and said, "It's been a long time. I didn't expect you to still be drinking something as cheap and plebeian as that."

"..." Elizabeth frowned slightly but did not say anything.

"You need to learn to change. Take me as an example, I wasn't used to drinking coffee or wine in the past. But I had to learn to blend into the upper class circle for your uncle's sake, so I made myself try all of this." As she said this, she gently sniffed the coffee. "Look how wonderful this smells!"

"Mrs. Dong, if you aren't here to teach me how to taste wine or drink coffee, why waste your time talking in circles?"

"Tsk tsk!" Charlotte looked at Elizabeth and shook her head. "Look at youself. You haven't even called me since the moment I sat down here, and now you're interrupting me so rudely. What an ill-bred little girl!"

"It's none of your business how well-bred I am, is it?" After being driven out of the Liang mansion, having the Liang Company stolen from her, and hearing the threat from Charlotte last night, Elizabeth could find no good reason to treat the woman before her with respect.

“I am still your aunt at the very least..."

Elizabeth sneered upon hearing this, "Aunt? Sorry, but my aunt died a few months ago. Which aunt do you think you are?"

"You..." Charlotte instantly flared up. She pointed at Elizabeth and said, "You..."

Charlotte became an upper class member of society very late in life, in addition to the fact that she was relatively uneducated and uncultured, she could plausibly put up the act of a rich madam for a minute, but her true strengths lie in losing her temper and spitting out vulgarities.

But when she remembered the main reason why she was here, she uncomfortably forced herself to swallow the profanities that were at the tip of her tongue.

After drinking a big gulp of the coffee and taking a few deep breaths, she finally calmed down a little.

Charlotte forced a smile and softened her tone. "Elizabeth, I know that you're a holding a grudge against us... How about I secretly buy you a set of jewelry as the dowry for your future marriage? What do you think?"

"..." Elizabeth looked at the decently-dressed woman in front of her and didn't know whether to be angry at her or laugh at her ridiculousness. Did they think they could fudge over what they stole from her with a set of jewelry?

"Your parents left this world early, which means that we are your only family. I'm taking out the money to buy this jewelry from my own private savings..."

"You can keep your private savings. Your generosity is too great for me."

Charlotte was annoyed by Elizabeth's ungratefulness at rejecting her offer so directly, but she still said with a smile on her face, "I heard from your cousin that you've been... doing pretty well recently?"

Elizabeth decided that Charlotte was going on about nonsense, and she did not want to entertain the conversation any longer. She stood up and was about to leave.

"Wait!" Charlotte frantically called out, ignoring the manners of a lady. "You must have heard about what happened to your cousin, haven't you? Did you do it?"
