I Only Want You novel Chapter 93

By the time Elizabeth Liang woke up, it was already afternoon the next day.

The sun shone through the curtains, and the air conditioning in the room was set to a pleasant temperature.

"Mmh..." Elizabeth raised her sore hands and rubbed her painful head.

As she was massaging her head and looking at the curtains in her room, a question arose in her mind — She was glad to be back in this familiar room, but how exactly did she get back?

Elizabeth tried hard to recall what happened, but to no avail. The last thing she remembered was dying from the heat in the hotel bathroom, and then somebody saying that they were going to take her to James Lu.

When she remembered this, last night's events quickly flashed through her mind — she drank something that she shouldn't have. Why did James feed that to her? If he wanted something from her, why couldn't he have just asked? Why did he have to do something so vile?

So, James was the one who took her home?

But, knowing the kind of person he was after being with him all this time, she thought that he would never do that!

Countless thoughts raced across Elizabeth's mind as she knitted her eyebrows together. After lying on the bed for a while, she reached out for her cellphone with a trembling hand.

When she saw the time on the screen, she reflexively yelped—

"Crap! Oh my god!"

It was three o'clock!

Although she was in a bad mood right now, she still had a job to go to!

Elizabeth got out of bed in a hurry, but as soon as her feet touched the ground, her legs were so weak that she immediately collapsed onto the floor.

"Ugh..." She softly gasped.

How could this be?

She was feeling the same way that she did after that crazy night with James, in fact, this felt even worse!

Did... did she really do it with James?

There were two unread messages on Elizabeth's phone. She pushed down her apprehension and opened them. One was a message from Evelyn Wu -How are you feeling, Elizabeth? Did your husband do anything to you after you guys got back? Give me a call when you see this text!

The other message was from Theodore Chao - Are you okay, Elizabeth?

Both messages were sent to her during yesterday midnight.

What did it mean that Evelyn and Theodore were sending her these messages? Panic ran through Elizabeth, and she looked down at the clothes she was wearing - they were the same from yesterday, but very crumpled.

She was shocked and vexed by the soreness and pain that her body was feeling. She just couldn't understand. Even if James had these improper thoughts, why didn't he just talk to her about it instead of forcing himself on her while she was unconscious? What did he think of her as?

Elizabeth's heart felt cold from disappointment and heartache.

Of course she couldn't be bothered to reply to Evelyn or Theodore's texts or make a call right now!

Deeply troubled, Elizabeth gritted her teeth and propped herself up using the bed. She struggled all the way to the bathroom with the support of the walls and stood still in front of the mirror. After making up her mind, she mustered all of her courage to look at herself in the mirror...

Her neck was spotless! She lifted her clothes, and couldn't find any suspicious marks on her body! Then why did she feel so limp and weak, as if she had just finished running a marathon?

Elizabeth held back her suspicions and quickly washed herself up. Then she changed into clean clothes before she opened the door and went downstairs in a hurry.

"Where are you going?"

She rushed down the stairs and ran all the way past the living room sofa, when she heard James's voice coming from the window.

Elizabeth had to stop in her tracks and look up at James, whom she failed to notice just now. "You're home?"

James did not answer her. With one hand in his pocket, he walked over to her in a few steps. "I asked you where you're going."

"To work!" Even though Elizabeth hasn't figured out the whole story yet, she couldn't help but snap at him.

James rubbed the space between his eyebrows and almost laughed as a reaction. It was honestly kind of impressive that she was still worried about her work right now!

"You don't have to go."

"What?"

"I got someone to ask for a day off for you."

"Huh?" Elizabeth's jaw hung open in surprise as she stared at James in front of her in disbelief. "How did you find out where I work?"

James glanced at her as if she were an idiot. "Do you think it would be hard for me?"

Elizabeth shook her head and felt a little relaxed. She was weak all over and it was obviously best for her not to go to work.

However...

"Why did you suddenly think of asking for a day off for me?" Elizabeth couldn't help but look at James with doubtful eyes as she asked this.

Not only was she feeling very weird today, he was also acting incredibly strange. Did he really do something wrong to her? "Why are you looking at me like that?" James frowned with displeasure.

Whenever James said those things, Elizabeth would always blush and feel her heartbeat quicken.

However, what was happening right now and right here in this moment overwhelmed her with an immeasurable feeling of disappointment and sadness.

"Who I belong to..." Elizabeth couldn't help sneering as she said this. "James Lu, don't forget that you don't actually love me, and that this is a marriage of convenience!"

Elizabeth's heart wrenched in pain as soon as she spoke.

"So what right did you have to do that to me? Yes, I'm helpless and alone in this world right now, but why did you have to be so cruel to me?"

James aggressively kicked the coffee table in front of him. "Are you f*cking serious, Elizabeth Liang? I was cruel to you? You think you could've survived at all if I was CRUEL to you?"

He shouldn't have come back!

"You weren't?" Elizabeth's lips couldn't stop trembling. "Then why did you take me away?"

"Why did I TAKE YOU AWAY?" James felt as if he was about to explode from his rage.

Before he was literally about to taste blood, he forced down his fury and fiercely spat at Elizabeth, "Why wouldn't I take you away? I'm not a dead man!"

"And that gave you the right?" To do something as repulsive as drugging her...

"..." James was so ridden with rage that he had to take out a cigarette to calm himself down. Otherwise, he might've strangled Elizabeth to death right then and there.

He looked genuinely incensed, so much so that his hands were shaking. After a few failed attempts at flicking the lighter, he threw everything out in frustration.

"Elizabeth Liang, I can't believe it took me this long to realize that you're a heartless piece of sh*t!" James stood up, "Don't let me ever see you again from this day on!"

After saying that, he walked straight out of the front door, and slammed the door so loudly that the entire house shook. Elizabeth reflexively flinched from the sound of the door slamming shut.

She heard James start his car, then quickly disappear into the distance. Then she finally cracked open her lips and bursted into maniacal laughter.

She sounded crazy, but also immensely sorrowful.

In the end, her laughter eventually broke into an uncontrollable sob.

She thought that she had found a home where she belonged, a shoulder to lean on even if it was not love. But the truth was that it was nothing but a wishful fantasy. She was still herself, an unloved poor little girl who had no mom or dad to care for her.

But why did her heart hurt so much?

Loneliness, disappointment, heartache... These emotions drowned Elizabeth. She struggled to breathe, but she couldn't find a way out.
