"Hello, what would you like to drink?" The waiter served a glass of warm water and asked politely.
Evelyn sat at the seat and said with an embarrassed smile, "Well... I'm sorry, my friend hasn't arrived yet. I'll order when he comes."
"Sure."
After the waiter left, Evelyn took a deep breath. As the appointed time getting closer, she became more and more nervous.
The night before, after encouraging herself repeatedly, she finally plucked up the courage to call Lawrence. However, she didn't say anything else but ask whether he had time to meet. Then they made an appointment.
It was the weekend, so she didn't have to go to work. And she had enough time to dress herself up.
She was busy making money and seldom put on makeup. Lawrence had seen her without makeup as well. However, this time was different. She was to begin a new life and had to make herself beautiful.
There were ten minutes left.
Evelyn became more and more nervous. When she was nervous, she wanted to go to the toilet.
She looked outside, but didn't see Lawrence. She went to the toilet as quickly as possible.
After that, she couldn't help to check her look in the mirror and fixed her makeup.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Evelyn was rather satisfied. It was worthy to spend over a hundred dollars for the make-up and the new hairstyle in the saloon.
It wasn't her fault not to be good at makeup. She felt pity for her money for a second.
However, seeing that she was as beautiful as a different person, she decided to take it.
By the time she returned to her seat, Lawrence hadn't arrived yet. There were around two minutes left.
She wasn't as nervous as she was before going to the toilet. She even was able to imagine what Lawrence's expression would be when he heard the answer.
Evelyn couldn't help but chuckling when imagining of it.
He must be surprised. After all, she was going to answer him only three days after the date he talked to her. From how she knew about him, he should be happy about it.
Thinking about their future, she couldn't help but feel excited.
Finally, it was time to say goodbye to being single and the endless blind dates that made her feel very headache.
Wasn't it excited?
However, this excitement didn't last for too long, because Lawrence hadn't shown up when the appointed time passed for over ten minutes.
Evelyn thought of the first time when they met. She couldn't help but worry whether Lawrence would break the appointment as he had done before. And then he would tease her that he was joking and asked why she took it so seriously that she even put on makeup.
"It can't be," Evelyn thought again.
She looked at Lawrence and said with an awkward smile, "I thought that you wouldn't come today."
Lawrence saw how Evelyn looked at the moment with her bag in hand. He knew that she was leaving. It made him feel more guilty. "No. We had an appointment. I'll definitely come. My father asked me to take a look at some business today and I departed late. I encountered road maintenance on the way and had to make a detour. It really took me some time and I am late."
He took a deep exhale and said, "I wanted to call you and asked you to wait for me when I found that I was late. But my phone ran out of battery." He then took out his cell phone and showed it to Evelyn, proving that it was the reason why he didn't call her.
He apologized sincerely again. "I'm sorry. You asked me out for the first time, but I'm late. It's all my fault."
At the moment, after listening to Lawrence's explanation, Evelyn's displeasure faded away. "It's fine," It was fine as long as he was here.
"Are you really not angry?"
Evelyn shook her head. "No."
"Then..." Although Evelyn said so, Lawrence still felt uneasy. He stared at Evelyn for a moment, then took a look at the glass of water. He tried to suggest, "Would you stay longer with me?"
Evelyn pursed her lips and then nodded. "Okay."
Since he had explained and he didn't look like lying, Evelyn decided to forgive him this time. Moreover, if she left this day, she might never be this brave again afterwards.
After sitting down and waiting for serving, Evelyn asked, "Did you come here by car?"
