Jodie stood outside Zena's room. She raised her hand to wipe the tears on her face before knocking on the door.
She knocked on the door for quite a while, but Zena didn't open it. Suppressing the bitterness and pain in her heart, she said as she knocked on the door, "Zena... open the door. I... have something to talk to you."
"Zena, open the door, please. Both of you and your father don't come out... Do you want me to die of anxiety?"
"Zena... What's the point of hiding in the room? I know you're feeling bad, and your father and I are also very grieved. It has been so long, but you refuse to eat anything. I'm really so sad..."
A few seconds later, Zena finally said, "Mom... I'm not hungry."
"Although you're not hungry, don't lock yourself in the room. Seeing you and your father like this, I'm so helpless. It doesn't matter if you don't eat. Just open the door,
okay?"
After a short while, Jodie heard light footsteps, followed by the sound of the door being opened.
Jodie breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at the door, she was slightly nervous for a moment.
"Zena!" As soon as the door was opened, Jodie forced a smile, "You're finally willing to see me."
Zena bit her lip, glanced at Jodie blandly, and nodded gently. Then she turned around and went into the room.
Jodie immediately followed her in.
The room was very messy. All the orderly arranged ornaments were thrown to the ground, and the quilt on the bed was crumpled.
Jodie's nose twitched as she saw all these, but she did not say anything. Looking at Zena who lay on the bed again without saying a word, she had no choice but to speak first, "Zena, I cooked some porridge. Do you want to eat some? I'll bring it upstairs for you, okay?"
Zena shook her head and said in a muffled voice, "There's no need. Mom, don't do that. I really have no appetite."
Hearing this, Jodie closed her eyes in sorrow and sat sideways on the edge of the bed, "Zena, I know that you must feel so guilty, but could you think for me? Your father hasn't eaten anything since he came back. He stayed in the study for a whole night. You're the same. Do you think I can feel good when I see you and your father like this?"
Zena did not say a word and simply closed her eyes.
"We have lost our company. If you and your father go on living like this, you will fall ill. At that time, what should I do? Your father and I are not young anymore. Tell me..."
Jodie could not stop crying, "Zena, this is too much!" She turned around and looked at Zena with tears in her eyes, "How can you still say such ruthless words now? If your father hears it, he will lose his temper again." After she said this, she remembered that Zena was about to leave, and she was reluctant to part with her, "It's all over. Don't even think about it anymore, okay?"
"Mom..."
"Stop it. I know that you're angry, but your father and I are the same. However, this is our fault. Just accept the fact. Your father has a wide range of contacts, so it's not impossible for him to start a business again. Just tell yourself that you've been taught a lesson, although this lesson..."
"Alas!" Jodie sighed, "Let's not talk about it." After speaking, she wiped her tears and stood up. Then she took out a bank card and a pile of things that were wrapped with newspapers from her bag with great difficulty, "This is the money that your father asked me to draw out just now. Here're two hundred thousand dollars. You can deposit it in your bank card. There are one million dollars in this card. I applied for this card with the nanny's ID card. I'm afraid that this card will be frozen. Take all these."
Zena looked at the money on her hands and felt that it was burning hot. She refused, "Mom, I don't want... the money."
"Take it!" Jodie insisted, "You did earn some money in the past, but I know that you've spent most of it. After you go abroad, you'll have to buy everything with money. You've never suffered since you were young, so don't make things difficult for yourself."
After hearing this, Zena couldn't control herself anymore and cried out loud.
Seeing Zena crying so sadly, Jodie burst into tears. She held Zena with both hands and used all her strength to hug her, "Zena, don't be wilful in the future. You should... live a good life there. Understand?"
