Standing in front of Elizabeth's door, James knocked the door with the hand holding hot water bag.
A few seconds later, no one opened the door. So he said in a soft voice uncertainly, "Elizabeth?"
In the room, Elizabeth had already dried her tears with the corner of her quilt the moment the door was knocked. Before she could get out of bed, she heard his voice again.
She took two deep breaths. After making sure that her voice didn't sound weird, she replied, "What's up?"
"Open the door."
Elizabeth was in a bit of a panic. She didn't care about the embarrassment just now. The most important thing was that if she went to open the door now, he would definitely know that she had cried.
"Is there anything wrong?" If there was nothing else, she would not open the door.
James, who was outside the door, just repeated, "Open the door."
Elizabeth scratched her hair gloomily, rushed into the bathroom to wash her face with cold water. She wiped her face a few times, and then went to open the door.
James looked at her who was slightly bowing her head in front of him, and he was still a little embarrassed. He coughed softly and asked, "What are you doing?" He frowned as he said, "Are you asleep?"
"Huh?" She paused for a moment and then nodded. "Yeah, haha."
He didn't change his expression, but he was a little annoyed in his heart for coming a little late.
But now that all the things had been brought in, he had to use them.
Walking into the door, he walked to the bedside table in a few steps and put the cup in his hand on it. Then he turned to look at the little girl still standing at the door and said, "Come here."
"What are you doing?" Elizabeth quickly lifted her eyelids and glanced at him, then lowered her head.
"I asked you to come over. Just come here. Why are you talking so much nonsense?"
"Oh."
She slowly walked over and stood in front of him. She still held the same position as before, waiting for him to speak.
"You..." He hesitated for a moment and said, "You lie down on the bed first."
"Oh..."After she replied, she was a little slow to scream, "What?"
He came to her room so late at night, but now he asked her to lie down on the bed?
Seeing her exaggerated reaction, James also felt that what he just said was too ambiguous. But he still roared a little fiercely, "Why are you shouting? Please don't think about the strange things for all day, okay? Even if I did want to do something, today wouldn't be the right day, would it?"
Upon hearing this, Elizabeth's face suddenly became hot, and even her ears were burning.
She felt ashamed because of his words. Before she could do anything, James grabbed her arm with one hand and pushed her to sit on the bed.
"Lie down, hurry up!" He also felt a little hot.
"What..." Elizabeth just let out a scream, and immediately bit her lip and shut her mouth.
He had said that just now, so she didn't have to worry too much. After thinking for a while, she chose to sit on the head of the bed as he said.
As soon as she leaned on it, a sweet taste floated in front of her. She looked at it and found that it was a cup with some dark colored drinks inside.
She was good in cooking, and she knew exactly what that smell was.
Her heart skipped a beat, and her mind was in a mess. She stared at the cup in front of her without moving. The water in the cup was not so hot. But the rising steam still made her eyes a little sore.
When she opened the door, in order not to let him see that she had cried, she kept her head down. So she didn't find anything in his hand.
Now, when she finally understood why he came to her room, she was so moved and shocked that it was hard to express her feelings.
Was he... just cooking this for her just after he finished with the car?
"What are you doing?" James saw that she hadn't taken it for a long time, so he urged, "Drink quickly." After that, he added, "Drink all of it."
She curled up her fingers, then raised her trembling hands, and took them.
She didn't look up at him, but she knew that he was staring at her at the moment.
Under his gaze, she took a small sip. She didn't know if the water was too little or the sugar was too much, so the taste was too sweet. Maybe it was really too sweet, so when she first felt the sweetness, her eyes were filled with tears in an instant.
In order not to let her tears fall down, she began to gulp it down.
She still shook her head, but her tears fell even more violently.
Her eyes were blurred with tears. Looking at his worried face, she felt sour and bitter in her heart.
"Elizabeth! What's wrong with you? Say something!"
Being shouted by him suddenly, she was stunned. Looking at his anxious and worried face, she had to make an excuse, "I... I just have a bellyache..." Hearing this, he took a deep breath and tried his best to resist the impulse of strangling her to death. "Why didn't you say that when I just asked you? You're very good! You've learned to lie!"
He glared at her fiercely and wanted to curse her, but his heart softened when he saw her pitiful face full of tears and her small shoulders shaking.
"I really owe you a lot in my last life!"
Saying this, he stopped thinking about embarrassment and began to rub his long and white hands hard.
She didn't cover herself with the quilt, so it was more convenient. He rubbed his hands until it was warm, and then put them on her belly through her cotton pajamas.
Elizabeth stiffened at the sudden warmth, and she even forgot to cry. She struggled to move aside and said, "What... what are you doing?"
James frowned and increased the strength in his hand. "Don't move!" After yelling, he said quickly, "It's said on the internet that it is useful when you had a bellyache." He was afraid that she would think too much, so he added, "Don't think too much. I'm just afraid that you will die of pain. The water in the hot water bag is still too hot. You can use it later."
Elizabeth didn't know whether she was shocked by his words, or she really became obedient after listening to him. She didn't move this time. She sat there stiffly, staring blankly at him who was warming her lower belly in front of her.
He should have never done such a thing, and the strength in his hands was a little strong. He slightly lowered his eyelids, and he looked a little awkward, but extremely serious.
She was reluctant to open her mouth to break the warmth because of tonight's misfortune. She just looked at him without blinking. Her nose was a little sore, and her heart was filled with something which was warm but a little suffocating.
For so many years since her parents left, she had never been treated like this before she met James. She was like a carefully collected and well-placed treasure, with the posture of being protected everywhere.
That special treatment moved her and made her feel a long- lost happiness. However, this kind of happiness was with a little helplessness.
Did they really have to be friends?
She closed her eyes and turned her head away. Looking at the bright moon outside the window, her heart seemed to be covered with a layer of cool moonlight.
—James, I am so sad. Do you know that?
