Eddy tore off one of the bodyguard's gas masks, and a wild, earthy scent rushed in, overwhelming his senses and clouding his mind.
The bodyguard, eyes blazing, seized Ingrid's hand, which had been clinging helplessly to Eddy. With a sudden, brutal motion, he wrenched her away and threw her to the ground, acting with complete disregard.
It happened so fast that Ingrid had no chance to dodge. She crashed to the floor and felt the bodyguard's iron grip pinning her down.
She thrashed and kicked, furious. "You've got a death wish, don't you? How dare you touch me!"
"Let go of me!"
The other bodyguards weren't about to let this maniac have his way with Ingrid. Chaos erupted as they tried to restrain their crazed colleague. For a moment, the iron wall of protection around Eddy faltered.
Seizing the opportunity, Eddy slipped away to the garage and jumped into a Ferrari. By the time the bodyguards caught on, he was already tearing out of the driveway, the engine roaring into the night.
Back in the living room, pandemonium reigned. The guards finally subdued the out-of-control bodyguard, and Ingrid managed to escape.
She collapsed onto the living room sofa, her mind whirling. Had she really stooped so low as to become Eddy's mistress, bearing his children without so much as a promise in return? And yet, he didn't care.
He'd never treated her like this before. Once, he'd been her childhood friend, her protector, the boy who would have done anything for her. Now, because of Blanche, he looked at her like she was the enemy, tossing her aside and letting the guards handle her however they pleased.
Bitter tears spilled down Ingrid's cheeks. She slapped the bodyguard, but no matter how many times she struck him, it could never relieve the hatred swelling inside her.
She needed to destroy them.
Snatching her phone, Ingrid dialed Camilla, the TV host. "I sent you the video. Why haven't you aired it?"
"Miss Marshall, isn't the day after tomorrow when Miss Doyle and Mr. Anderson are getting married? I thought it'd be most explosive if we released it then," Camilla replied calmly.
"No, I want you to air it now!" Ingrid couldn't wait another second. She couldn't stand watching Blanche and Eddy flaunt their affection, nor could she bear Jeannette and Kelvin's wedding. One after another, they'd all left her behind.
"Miss Marshall—" Camilla tried to reason with her.
But Ingrid cut her off coldly. "If you don't want this once-in-a-lifetime story, there are plenty who do."
