How to Destroy a Cheater Without Saying Goodbye novel Chapter 148

Jeannette was stunned, the shock hitting her like a tidal wave.

"No! Please—please, don't do this to me! I'm Lara's mother! Don't take away my womb, I'll do anything else you ask! I can give you more children, carry on the Simmons family line—please!" Her sobs echoed off the sterile walls as she thrashed against the hands of the burly male nurses holding her down, but she was no match for their strength.

She watched in terror as the doctor pulled a syringe from his coat pocket. A thin stream of clear liquid arced from the tip, the needle inching closer to the vein pulsing in her neck.

With every ounce of strength she had left, Jeannette clawed at Eddy's leg. "Please—"

But Eddy only kicked her away, sending her sprawling.

Despair crashed over her. Tears, bright and hot, poured from her bloodshot eyes as the nurses yanked her upright, pinning her in place. The doctor pressed the needle to her neck.

A scream ripped from her throat, echoing through the entire mansion, and her eyes rolled back as she collapsed.

The doctor glanced at the untouched needle, then looked at Eddy. "Mr. Simmons, she's fainted from fright. The injection wasn't necessary."

Eddy's brows drew together, a shadow passing over his face. "Take her to the hospital."

After a battery of tests at the hospital, Jeannette slowly regained consciousness.

"Mr. Simmons, she fainted from extreme shock, but there's no lasting harm," the doctor reported.

Still, Eddy's expression remained stormy. "Check her heart."

The doctor obliged, pressing his stethoscope to Jeannette's chest. After a moment, he nodded. "No issues. Miss Doyle is in excellent health."

Eddy's gaze lingered on Jeannette—dark, unreadable, as if weighing some unfathomable decision.

Still trembling, Jeannette was gradually returning to herself. Hearing Eddy inquire about her health, she felt a faint warmth flicker in her heart.

He does still care for me.

He must have lost his temper earlier because of something Blanche said. After all, he was still Blanche's husband in name—he had to give her some sort of explanation, so he'd only meant to frighten Jeannette.

Even if he wanted her gone, Loraine would never allow it.

After convincing herself, Jeannette gathered her courage and snuggled up to him. "Eddy, I know I was wrong. I swear, I won't bother Blanche again. You can do whatever you want with me."

Her tone was soft, her fingertips tracing slow circles on his chest.

Eddy looked at her without a hint of emotion, his voice icy. "Whatever I want? Anything at all?"

Jeannette, thinking she'd piqued his interest, giggled. "Of course, anything."

She took his hand and pressed it to her chest. "But you scared me so badly just now. Maybe you should comfort me."

Eddy didn't move. Instead, he called out, "Come in."

The door opened and Kelvin stepped inside.
