Isaiah POV

I feel the pull of the mate bond. I also felt Kaia’s heart race. I know I was affecting her. I thought maybe we would have our moment. When our bodies were against one another, I felt the electric jolts.

Then she pulled back and left. She said she had a long night of monitoring and scurried out of the room. That rejection cut deep. I have to admit. I have been waiting for my mate, and even though she is a pain in the ass, I’m still trying to give us a chance.

We are mates, so I really want to know everything about her now. I got to know her a little before she turned, because she was going to join the pack. I always found her attractive, because she is. The way she carries herself when she walks. Her goofy smile when she is about to start trouble and even her smirk when she is being mischievous. They are all attractive things about her.

Then there is the way she looks. Long blond hair that looks like pure sun. Her eyes are beautifully blue, and she has a small smattering of freckles across her nose. She isn’t very tall, but I’ve seen her fight, and I know she can handle herself. Her body is just the right amount of curves and I bet she would look killer in heels and a skirt.

She doesn’t like me though. She rejected me tonight. I felt the sting. Storn felt the sting too. Apparently, Izo had to back away, though Storn said she was reluctant about it.

‘Face it, Storn. Kaia doesn’t like us.’ I said, feeling dejected.

‘I don’t think that is the case, Isaiah. Maybe we came on too strong. She is still getting used to having a wolf.’

‘I don’t know. She wanted to turn to find a mate; now that she has one, she is pulling away.’

‘Izo didn’t want to go but had to.’ Storn said.

‘Did she say why?’

‘All she said is that Kaia isn’t free yet but hopefully she will be in a month.’

‘So, what…are we waiting a month before I can claim my mate? I want to understand why.’ I said, growing more frustrated.

Storn huffed, ‘I want to understand too.’

I decided to go to sleep and try to talk to her in the morning and get her to explain things to me plainly. I’m not against waiting now that I’ve finally found her, but it would be nice to understand why my mate is rejecting me.

If it’s really because she doesn’t want to be mated to me, then I will be crushed. I tossed and turned the majority of the night and couldn’t get any sleep. At best, it was broken sleep. Maybe thirty minutes here and an hour there. Before I know it, the sun is rising and I decide to give up on sleeping.

I get up and shower. I wrapped the towel around my waist and as I’m coming out of the bathroom, I am too tired to notice that I run right into Kaia.

“Oh!” She said and was looking right at my chest. Her eyes are wide and I hear her heart start racing again. I know I’m affecting her. So, what’s stopping her? She closes her eyes and turns away. “I’m sorry. I am tired and wasn’t paying attention.”

“Were you up all night?” I asked.

“Yeah, monitoring.”

“I see.” I said quietly. “You should get some rest.”

“Yeah, I’m going to take a nap and then I need to leave for a bit.” She said as she fidgeted, trying to figure out which way she wants to go to get away from me.

“I had a hard time sleeping last night. Maybe our wolves will calm down if we nap together.” I said.

“You think so?” She asked and I can tell she really wants a good rest. Her eyes look tired but there is another emotion there that I don’t understand yet.

I reached for her hand, waiting for her to take it. “Yeah. Really.”

She tentatively takes my hand. A small victory, I’ll take it.

I smiled gently at her and led her to my room. When she enters, I hear her heart speed up again. I look at her, Everything okay?”

“Wow. Your scent is strong in here.” She said.

I am fighting hard not to smile widely. She is affected. I was starting to worry. “Oh, yeah?”

“Yeah. You smell like sandalwood and rosemary. I like it.” She said quietly.

I smiled. “I like your scent. It’s coconut and jasmine. It smells tropical and different. Much like you. Different.”

Her eyes shined a little through the tiredness. “Um, I’m really tired. I’m going to freshen up and lay down.”

“I’ll wait for you.”

After a few minutes, Kaia came back in. She was wearing some shorts and a little tank top. Goddess, I can feel the waterfall of blood rushing to my cock. She looks tempting. I’m holding back though. I am trying to remember what Izo told Storn. She isn’t free yet and I still want to understand why. More importantly though, I want her in this bed with me and in my arms.
