The next day, Cecily was discharged from the hospital. Linda brought Eva and Hank along to take her home. Scott didn't go with them. Not only that, he also didn't reply to her messages.
To avoid waiting for Cecily's return back home, Scott decided to pester Shannon instead.
"Can't you take me with you when you go out? I promise I won't be a bother!"
"No," Shannon refused him flatly.
Scott started to get argumentative. "Why not? I've even started being nice to you!"
"You can stop if it's a hassle."
He felt frustrated but was unwilling to give up. "I'm one of your major clients. Shouldn't you comply with your big client's wishes and keep him happy by taking him out with you?"
He had spent nearly 700 thousand dollars in total. Considering that Shannon only charged 30 thousand dollars per job, it would take her a long time to earn that amount. Scott assumed that he was a major client.
Shannon glanced at him and silently pulled out her phone and showed him Donald's transfer record. He had transferred three million dollars to her previously. Next, she scrolled down and showed Scott the ten million dollars Adam transferred to her.
In this instance, silence was better than words.
Scott found it incredulous. What did he just see? Was Shannon's business that profitable?
"Hold on. Uncle Adam's transfer doesn't count. That's just pocket money!"
Shannon showed him another ten-million-dollar transfer record from even earlier and explained, "The first time, it was pocket money. The more recent ten million dollars was a payment."
Scott had never been to such a shabby place in his life. When they walked into the building, his astonishment doubled.
"This building doesn't have an elevator? How can there still be buildings without elevators in Seastone?" Scott wondered aloud.
Shannon gave him a sideways glance and ordered with a deadpan expression, "You, go home. Right now."
Scott covered his mouth. "I'll shut up. Okay?"
When they finally reached the top floor and saw Rachelle's one-bedroom apartment, Scott was once again amazed by the extent of the poverty he saw there. He was about to comment on it, but Shannon's cold glare shut him up.
Rachelle and Daniella never had any visitors over, so the only place to sit in the living room was a bed. Due to Scott's upbringing, he knew it would be rude to sit on another person's bed. So, he pulled over a plastic stool from the side and sat down quietly.
