Clara wasn't someone who would let things go easily.
After she got home, she immediately asked someone to check the schedule and themes of the art exhibitions nearby.
Seastone University offered a major in arts, so many such competitions were held annually. These competitions had different themes each year.
Once she had all the information, she realized that the young man had set up the whole encounter.
The competition's theme had nothing to do with hands. If she had agreed to be his hand model, it would inevitably lead to some physical contact when he applied plaster onto her hands. A young woman like her would easily fall in love in such a romantic scenario.
Clara let out a cold snort. She then remembered that Shannon had warned her to beware of a potential saboteur. And so, she appointed someone to investigate the man's identity and recent contacts.
Soon, she formed her conclusion based on the information uncovered. It was indeed a trap set by her stepsister.
…
After sending Linda away, Clara looked at Shannon calmly. There was no trace of nervousness or unease on her face as she briefly recounted the events of the morning. After she was done, she fixed her eyes on Shannon intently.
"You said I could come to you," Clara stated.
Shannon didn't say anything. She reached into her backpack and took out a talisman. "This is an anti-malice talisman to ward off saboteurs. If someone tries to set you up again, this talisman will rebound the ill intentions onto them."
Clara didn't immediately take it. "Next time? What about this time?"
"Well, you didn't fall for it, did you?" Shannon replied.
Clara narrowed her eyes slightly. "I didn't, but I don't like being set up."
With that, she plopped herself onto the couch that Shannon was sitting on.
They sat side by side, their shoulders touching. Clara had a way of befriending anyone she had just met.
She asked, "Besides the anti-malice talisman, do you have one that attracts undesirable romantic affairs?"
A weight-loss talisman was essentially an abstinence talisman, which reduced greed, including food. A talisman for success was a fortune-gathering talisman, which brought forth one's good fortune ahead of time rather than creating it out of thin air. Hence, Shannon rarely drew these.
As for the talisman for doing well in tests, it was a combination of the abstinence and concentration talismans. It could boost concentration and make studying more effective.
Clara understood everything. "I didn't expect they could be modified like that."
She happily accepted both the anti-malice talisman and the talisman that would attract undesirable romantic affairs. The next moment, a payment QR code was shown to her.
In a businesslike tone, Shannon said, "It's three thousand dollars for the anti-malice talisman and five thousand dollars for the bad romance talisman. The total is eight thousand dollars."
Clara didn't find it expensive. She promptly scanned the code with her phone.
As Shannon was about to put her phone away after receiving the payment, Clara reached out and tapped away on her phone.
With a series of swift taps, she saved her number on Shannon's phone.
