Heiress Unmasked: Shaking the World With Geomancy novel Chapter 78

Scott caught Cecily's words and saw the genuine worry written on her face. But he turned his head away, ignoring her.

Caleb, standing nearby, immediately frowned. "Scott! Cecily's worried about you. What's with the attitude?"

"Why do you care about my attitude?" Scott snapped back at Caleb.

He had always considered Cecily a sister, but the incident in the classroom building had left him feeling raw. Even though he understood the instinct to flee danger, being abandoned by someone he trusted didn't sit right with him.

Noticing Scott's demeanor, Cecily lowered her gaze slightly and said, "Scottie, today was my fault. If I hadn't insisted you come with me, you wouldn't have been caught up in this mess. I want to apologize."

Her sincere words and slightly pale complexion tugged at Caleb's heartstrings.

"Cecily, you don't have to apologize! The one who should be sorry is that jerk," he said, shooting a pointed look at Scott.

"Caleb, don't speak ill of Scottie like that," Cecily interjected gently. "In the end, it's on me. Scottie did everything he could to protect me."

"Stop defending him, Cecily," Caleb retorted sharply. "If he really protected you, why are you in the hospital while he's perfectly fine?"

Hank added his two cents, "Cecily, you always shoulder the blame. Scott isn't a kid anymore. You can't keep pampering him. Even if he had gotten hurt today, it would've been his own fault for not looking out for himself."

Scott felt like he was on the brink of exploding from the constant barrage of criticism. He had tried to avoid confronting Cecily in front of everyone, but he couldn't hold back any longer.

"All you do is lay blame on me! Why don't you ask her what she did?

"I never wanted to meet some random online friend or play that stupid CS game. She dragged me into it, and now you're pointing fingers at me for everything!

"And when there was danger, I was the one who stood in front of her. But what did she do? She let go of my hand and ran!"

In that moment, he empathized with how Shannon must have felt when they all turned against her.

Looking at Hank and Caleb, he couldn't help but think they were complete idiots.

Fuming, Scott suddenly heard Shannon calmly saying, "Now that Cecily's awake, I'm heading back."

Glancing at Scott, she asked, "Are you coming?"

Scott was momentarily taken aback but quickly nodded. "Yes! Shannon, I'll come with you!"

He shot a defiant glare at Cecily and the others before turning to follow Shannon out of the room. His expression softened as he did.

It was clear to him now. Instead of wasting his breath arguing with people who wouldn't listen, he'd rather go home and relax with someone who understood him.
