"No."
In the family room of the Jensen residence, Shannon stared at Connor. She turned him down without any hesitation.
Connor was clearly taken aback. He even thought he had misheard.
"W-What did you say?"
Seeing how confused he was, Shannon was kind enough to repeat herself. "I said no."
Connor's face instantly soured.
Coupled with what happened last time, this was the second time Shannon chose not to listen to him.
"Shannon, don't say that out of spite. I know you're still angry about how Mom told you to leave the Gray family back then. But we're all still a family.
"Besides, you wouldn't have been able to return to the Jensen family if it wasn't for Mom and Dad."
Shannon glanced at him. "So, are you saying I should thank you guys for it?"
Just when Connor was about to speak, Shannon cut him off, "Also, I'm not part of your family anymore. I'm a Jensen now."
"Even so, we're still a family!" Connor furrowed his brows. "Could the rumors be true? You don't want to call us your family anymore after becoming a part of the Jensen family?"
Shannon merely looked at him as she asked calmly, "What if I said yes?"
…
When Scott headed downstairs to get some fresh juice, he saw Hank leaning over the railing on the second floor. He seemed to be watching something fun.
At first, Connor was lecturing her with a steely look. He then softened his tone. "Even so, they don't blame you. They even told me to bring the bangle and see you. Shannon, Dad and Mom are really nice to you. You shouldn't be ungrateful."
Shannon felt a surge of anger inside her.
In the past, she had always thought of Connor as the only sane person in the Gray family. Unlike Rachel, Connor would never try to bully her or deliberately get her in trouble since they were young. In fact, he would be concerned about her studies.
Not only would he give her birthday gifts, but he would even comfort her when she got scolded or punished by Sheila.
Because of that, she had tried to see Connor as her real brother. She had done all sorts of things for him so that he would show her love.
But she then realized that Connor wasn't who she thought he was.
He was only concerned about her studies because he didn't want her to embarrass the Gray family. The birthday gifts were merely things his admirers had given him that he didn't want. He comforted her just so that she wouldn't cause any trouble.
