Pete's voice quickly attracted the attention of nearby parents.
After hearing what he said, many of them looked toward Cassidy with a mix of curiosity and sympathy.
Cassidy stared coldly at Pete and said, "I don't have a mommy or daddy, but I have Mr. Heston."
"Where is he then? The event has started, and he's not here! You're just a big liar!"
"He will come! He said he would and always keeps his word!" Cassidy shouted back in a loud and firm voice.
Heston had never lied to her, and he'd show up as promised.
Seeing that she was getting mad, Pete's face lit up with triumphant glee. "Liar, liar, pants on fire! If he's not here, that means you're a liar!"
He was tautening away when he noticed the stubborn Cassidy's eyes shift past him. Her angry little face slowly lit up with a smile.
The next second, he felt a shadow loom over him completely. A heavy, invisible pressure bore down from behind, and he instinctively turned around, only to be met with a wall.
Well, to be exact, it was a person. But since the person was so tall, all Pete could see were his legs.
Even so, just catching the figure's cold, downward glance was enough to scare Pete speechless.
That was when he heard Cassidy's delighted voice behind him. "Mr. Heston!"
It was Heston. He'd rushed back through several teleportation journeys, but the shopkeeper had been a little slow, so he'd arrived a little late.
Right now, he was dressed in a brand-new red tracksuit with the massive word "CR" printed across his chest. It was the kind of outfit one would see anymore, but on him, it radiated a righteous, commanding presence.
Cassidy wore a matching, smaller-sized version, and it was obvious to anyone that they were family.
"I-I don't want your stupid snacks either!" With that, he turned around and ran off, puffed up with indignation.
Cassidy didn't spare him a glance as she was too busy looking at Heston. Though he'd arrived late, just the fact that he'd come made her heart swell with joy.
As Heston stood up, she keenly noticed something and waved him back down. "Mr. Heston, crouch down again."
Though confused, Heston obeyed.
She tiptoed up to him and reached behind his neck. He stayed perfectly still until her hand reached for the tag from under his collar.
Blinking, Cassidy said, "Mr. Heston, you forgot to cut the tag."
Even kids knew you had to wash new clothes before wearing them, but it seemed Heston still had a lot to learn about the basics.
