To Olivia, all the things Skylar had done for her probably meant nothing more than helping a friend in need.
She'd tried to let go, but every time she made up her mind to move on, he'd appear again and stir up every string of her heart.
Olivia was well aware that she was not as decisive or carefree as she'd expected. She couldn't let go, and because of that, it hurt badly. It made her feel wronged and gave her the urge to cry.
So, she collapsed onto his back and sobbed harder, yet her arms wrapped tighter around him.
Skylar wanted to put her down and ask her what was wrong, but she seemed to drown so much in her emotions that she completely ignored her questions.
He stood still helplessly and did not know what to do until he felt a drop of warm tears fall onto the back of his neck. Hot and scalding, her tears landed on his skin but seared straight into his heart.
Skylar's heart clenched. He was about to ignore her protests and drag her down his back when she suddenly buried her face into his neck.
Sniffling and sobbing, she began whispering vulnerably, "I like you…"
Ignoring how his body tensed up at her confession, she clung to him tightly and chokingly mumbled, "I like you, Skylar… I-I don't want to block you anymore… I-I don't want to give up on you either. I just want to date you…
"Can you like me too…"
Every word of her teary confession landed like a heavy stone in his heart.
Skylar stood stiffly in place. For the first time in his life, he was overwhelmed by unknowing and burning feelings that left him completely at a loss.
He'd grown up without affection until he met Mike and the others. That was when he began to understand the warmth of family and friendship.
