Before Olivia could speak, Eleanor exclaimed with surprise and delight, "Why are you here? Are you staying here too?"

Skylar didn't mind either. He gave Eleanor a noncommittal nod and stepped into the elevator. After swiping his card and pressing a floor button, he walked to Olivia's side and stood next to her.

The elevator fell into a silence, and after a long pause, he finally announced, "I'm here to apologize."

Olivia's heart gave a sudden jolt, but her expression remained stoic. She stared straight ahead like he didn't exist.

Skylar continued, "I noticed you've blocked me. I thought about calling you from another number, but figured I owed you a face-to-face explanation."

Olivia's grip tightened slightly around her phone, but she said nothing.

Seeing her stay silent, he thought of the ruined cake and instinctively softened his tone to say, "Something urgent came up that night. I had to go on a mission and couldn't make it to our appointment. I'm sorry."

Olivia listened quietly. A sour ache welled up in her chest, but she forced it down without letting any of it show.

Standing aside, Eleanor had gone completely silent ever since Skylar spoke. She held her breath and stood motionless in the corner, doing her best to pretend she didn't exist.

Within those few short exchanges, the elevator reached the floor where the crew was staying.

Just when Skylar thought Olivia wouldn't respond at all, he heard her speak. Her voice was eerily calm and lacked the warmth it usually carried.

"It doesn't matter anymore."
