Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 461

Laura glanced at the newspaper before continuing to put on her earrings, “Who said it was Agnes who made it public?”

“Who else if not Agnes?”

Beatrice seemed to have an epiphany, “Mum, don't tell me it was you who broke the secret.”

Laura shot her a look but didn't answer, seemingly admitting it by her silence.

Beatrice was pissed off, “Why didn't you tell me? Now that you've spilled it, what am I supposed to do? You said as long as we had this secret, we could use it as leverage to make the Whitfield family agree to let Jared marry me. Mum, you've burned all my bridges! Are you just leaving me in the dust because you're with that rich guy now?”

Mentioning this made Laura angry, she slammed the table, “Everything I've done, I did it for you!”

Laura's outburst quieted Beatrice down considerably, “Then why would you reveal the secret? Without this card to play, how am I supposed to marry Jared and become Mrs. Whitfield?”

Beatrice seemed somewhat reassured by this.

A small smile appeared on her face, “Yeah, everyone thinks it was Agnes who revealed it. Jared and Alyssa were always close, but now that he knows Alyssa is actually his mother, it's a tangled mess. His mom killed Agnes' mom, and there's no way they could ever be together. I'm so happy. As long as they divorce, given time, Jared will forget about Agnes. Then, the position of Mrs. Whitfield will be mine.”

Laura said, “You need to change your temper, or Jared won't be interested. You should learn from your sister's behavior. If Jared likes her type, you should become what he likes. You can mimic your sister Agnes' behavior and expressions. If you persist long enough, he might fall for you for real. That's how your father fell for me. Julia was always lukewarm towards him because she was always thinking of another man. Your father was deeply in love with her, but still came to me for company and warmth. Men are like this, who they love doesn't matter, what matters is how to make him can't live without you.”
