Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 449

Mamie shot back resolutely, "Why not? I think your symptoms scream pregnancy. Didn't you tell me you've been feeling nauseous and have a poor appetite recently? I suggest you go get it checked out at the hospital."

Agnes felt her fingers trembling. She stuffed her hands in her pockets, squeezing tightly, but kept her cool on the outside, "I'm not pregnant, I checked before. It's just a mild stomachache, a bit of stomach medicine will do the trick."

But Jared walked right up, grabbed Agnes' arm and said, "We're going to the hospital now."

Agnes quickly wriggled away from Jared, "I'm not going, I've told you, I'm not pregnant, and it's impossible for me to be."

Jared quietly looked into Agnes' eyes.

Indeed, they hadn't been intimate for a long time.

While filming in S City, Jared knew Agnes was on birth control.

From then on, they always used a condom.

But that doesn't mean there's no chance of an accident.

Deep down, he really wanted a child.

Even if there's only a one in ten thousand chance of an accidental pregnancy, he wanted to be sure.

"Agnes, are you scared?"

Agnes laughed, "Scared of what? Why would I be scared?"

"Then let's go to the hospital now."

"If it will ease your mind, then let's go."

Agnes no longer hesitated.

Because she knew Jared well, the more she resisted, the more he would suspect.

Even if she didn't agree now, Jared would surely find a way to confirm it.

Sitting in the car, neither of them spoke.

The hospital's lab had already closed for the day.

Luckily Jared knew some people, and with one phone call, several professors and department heads came.

Agnes started to have a blood test and the sample was sent to the lab.

The two of them waited outside the head of the obstetrics and gynecology department's office.

But Agnes could clearly see the disappointment on Jared's face.

His eyes were like a light that had been extinguished in an instant, dim and indescribable.

But he still didn't give up, "Are you sure there's no mistake in the report?"

The lab technician said, "It's so late, Mrs. Whitfield's sample is the only one. How could we possibly make a mistake? Besides, three teams have done the test and the results are all the same. Mr. Whitfield, we understand your desire to have a child, but please don't doubt our work."

Jared returned looking disgruntled.

Agnes stood up casually, "Mr. Whitfield, can we go home now? I've already told you that I can't possibly be pregnant, yet you insisted on confirming it."

"Agnes, can you just stop talking?" Jared seemed to have lost his energy.

He slowly sat down on a bench nearby.

The hallway was empty.

He sat there quietly, holding the test report in his hand, his face filled with disappointment and some kind of unspeakable pain.

For a moment, Agnes found herself incredibly heartless...
