Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 405

Alyssa coldly stated, "There's no way in hell I'm letting my son go back to the Thomas family. So whatever you just blabbed about, I hope you keep it away from Ryder."

Agnes wanted to defend Ryder.

But if she spoke up now, Alyssa might misconstrue their relationship even more.

She might even suspect that she was coaxing Ryder to ditch the Whitfield family.

Agnes obediently agreed, "Gotcha."

Alyssa shot Agnes a cold glance and turned to go inside.

"Alyssa!" Agnes suddenly stopped her.

Alyssa stopped in her tracks, turning to face Agnes.

Mustering her courage, Agnes said, "I have a question for you." Alyssa's poised facade wavered slightly, yet she retained her chilly demeanor. "Go on."

"You were friends with my mum, Julia, weren't you?" Agnes hesitated for a moment. The weight of this confrontation had been bearing down on her. The fear of facing this truth, the anxiety of opening old wounds. Yet, when she finally spoke the words, they flowed easier than she had anticipated.

Alyssa's face tightened, her tone sharp. "What are you suggesting?"

"I just want to understand why you denied knowing my mum when you clearly did."

Alyssa's composure cracked; she visibly trembled. The nightmares she had been experiencing seemed to be merging with reality, making her feel trapped in a relentless dream.

The memory of a cheeky boy with a smirk on his face was like a dagger to her heart. An old wound ruthlessly torn open, not healed after so many years, but festering even worse...

Alyssa just stood there, frozen.

As if she hadn't yet processed it.

Agnes began recounting the past, "Because of Michael, your relationship with my mum shattered. You went from being sisters at film school to enemies. Then you went abroad for two years, and during this time my mum married my dad. But when you returned two years later, you were only eighteen, and you entered the entertainment industry. You started putting all sorts of pressure on my mum, forcing her out of the industry and into charity work. But you still wouldn't let her be. Ten years ago, you donated two million to my mum's Angelic Wings Foundation, but it was because of this money that my mum's reputation was ruined, and she ended up taking her own life. Alyssa, you're the one who caused my mum's death."

Agnes calmly narrated the past.

When she got to the last sentence, her tone was one of calm despair.
