Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1323

Agnes felt as if her heart had just stopped.

There, sitting on the couch, was a little boy intently focused on a thick book.

As the door swung open, he looked up slowly, his gaze meeting hers.

Nocturne's eyes, once calm and steady, now glimmered with a sudden light.

He put the book down, and with a burst of excitement, called out, “Mom!”

In that instant, Agnes felt her heart skip a beat, only to come alive again with a thunderous rhythm.

Before she knew it, Nocturne had set the book aside and was running towards her.

Agnes had expected him to throw himself into her arms. But instead, he stopped right in front of her. “Mom, did you come back early? I’ve been worrying about you every day.”

Agnes knelt down to his level, her heart softening inexplicably at the sight of this child.

“I’m back,” she said, her voice gentle. “I’m okay now.”

Nocturne watched her intently, his eyes searching hers. “Mom, do you not remember me? Ms. Mamie said you lost your memory.”

A pang of guilt hit Agnes hard.

For a child of five or six, this was a heavy blow—having your mother forget you entirely.

Agnes felt a swirl of emotions, unsure how to respond, terrified of the disappointment she might see in his eyes.

It was warmth. It was a bond that felt innate and unbreakable.

Looking at him, Agnes felt an urge to cry, but she held back.

Nocturne beamed up at her, delighted.

“Mom, did you and Dad come to take me home?” he asked, his eyes hopeful.

Agnes found herself unable to refuse him, the words spilling out before she could think. “Of course, I came to take you home.”

His eyes sparkled like stars, and Agnes knew that for his smile, she would do anything.
