Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1321

Ivan chuckled heartily, "Just kidding, but let me remind you, kids are important. Agnes may have lost her memory, but she has this innate motherly love for Nocturne. You might want to think about how you can connect with your son."

Jared fell into a thoughtful silence.

Ivan gave Jared a reassuring pat on the shoulder, "You mull it over here. I need to get back and check on my son."

Ivan headed back to his room.

Meanwhile, Mamie was busy nursing the baby.

Agnes, holding little Nathaniel Bartley's tiny foot in her hand, cooed, "Nathaniel is absolutely adorable."

Ivan chimed in, "We've been tied up at the hospital the past couple of days, and we haven't been able to look after Nocturne properly. Agnes, why don't you bring Nocturne back home? I told him you were back the other day, and he was over the moon. But when you didn't show up the next day, he was really disappointed. He's worried about you; he misses you."

The mention of Nocturne tugged at Agnes’s heartstrings.

The last time Agnes saw him was two days ago when he was still asleep, so she didn't wake him. She had planned to visit him the next day, but with Elton ending up in the hospital after a scuffle with Jared, she got caught up in the chaos.

The matter was put on hold, but it never left her mind. After all, he was her child, and it felt wrong to leave him with someone else.

Agnes nodded, "Alright, I'll bring him back today."

Just then, Jared walked in.

Agnes felt a pang as if something squeezed her heart in protest.

"Regardless of my memory," she countered, "I may have forgotten, but this child is still mine. How can you say he has nothing to do with me?"

Jared glanced at her, his words laced with irony, "And yet, despite your amnesia, we're still married. Why do you think we can just go our separate ways?"

Agnes realized Jared was throwing her own words back at her, leaving her momentarily speechless.

After a long silence, she finally said, "I'm in a tough spot right now. It's like I'm eighteen again, clueless about this world I'm in, as if I've been catapulted eight years into the future. I don't have a stable job yet, so I'm not going to fight you for custody right now. But as a mother, I feel terrible for forgetting my own child. At the very least, you have to give me time with him. I'm still his mom, after all."
