Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1295

Agnes couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Elton gently took her hand, his eyes filled with earnest sincerity. "We both got swept up in something beyond our control," he said softly. "If anyone should be blamed for infidelity, it's me. I was the one who tempted you. It's not your fault, Agnes. I've always thought that losing your memory was fate giving me another chance. When I was younger, I made so many mistakes. This is my opportunity to make things right. Let's leave the past behind us and start anew."

Agnes was still in a daze, her mind a whirlwind of confusion. It was as if a thousand questions buzzed around her head, but she couldn't grasp a single one to ask.

Finally, she managed to speak. "Elton, I need you to tell me everything that happened over these past eight years. I need the truth."

Elton sighed deeply, the weight of the years heavy on his shoulders. "I guess there's no point in hiding it anymore. The real villain in this story is Jenny."

Agnes frowned, perplexed. "Jenny? Didn't you say you lost touch years ago? That you went your separate ways after college?"

Elton nodded, his expression grave. "It all started on your twentieth birthday..."

He began to unravel the events of that fateful night. Jenny had manipulated him, getting him drunk and maneuvering a situation that led to a series of unfortunate events, including a setup that resulted in a miscarriage.

Elton finally understood what had been driving Agnes's behavior today. She must have visited the Pritchard estate after he left, and there she had undoubtedly encountered Jared.

The irony was not lost on Elton. Out of all the people in this sprawling city, fate had conspired to bring them together once more.

Elton squeezed Agnes's hand reassuringly. "Agnes, we were both pawns in Jenny's game. She ensnared me, and she set you up with Jared. You thought I betrayed you and ended things with me, then impulsively married Jared. Everyone knew about your whirlwind wedding—it was no secret there was no love there. So much happened afterward. His family's affairs were complicated, and you two eventually separated for four years. You stayed in Manhattan, and when you came back, so did I. Meeting both of us again must have been overwhelming. But you chose me, remember? That night on the yacht, we had something special. This photo is proof of that, isn't it?"
