Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1268

And there was just one bullet left in the gun.

Agnes felt her heart leap into her throat.

Just as she was about to rush forward, she heard Samuel say to Phenix, "Miss Phenix, he's not going to make it. This last shot... just let it be."

Samuel's tone was surprisingly respectful, almost as if he were consulting with her.

Agnes couldn't believe what she was seeing or hearing.

What on earth was going on?

Why did it seem like...

Like Samuel and Phenix were on the same side?

Before Agnes could fully process this revelation, Phenix finally turned around.

She stood up.

Despite the tears staining her face and still flowing freely from her eyes, her gaze was remarkably clear, and her presence was chillingly cold.

Agnes felt something was off.

She seemed to have an inkling of what it was.

But the thought was too unbelievable.

Phenix walked over slowly.

"Phenix..."

Agnes couldn't help but call out.

Phenix turned to glance at her, speaking in a detached tone, "Agnes, you shouldn't have come. You shouldn't be involved in this. It's between him and me."

Agnes just wanted an answer. She asked, "Phenix, you've remembered everything, haven't you?"

Phenix replied, "I never forgot."

That single sentence left Agnes completely stunned.

What did Phenix mean by that?

She never forgot who?

Her brother or Kearney?

Agnes's mind was in a whirl.

Back when Reggie wanted to kill Kearney, it was Phenix who desperately stood in his defense.

If Phenix had been confused, mistaking Kearney for Sean, it would have been understandable.

But now, with Phenix admitting that it was all a façade, that she was always aware and never forgot, why did she stop it then?

Agnes just couldn't wrap her head around it.

And now, Phenix was standing right in front of Kearney.

Kearney was barely hanging on.

Yet a faint, bitter smile curved his lips, "So it was all a lie... you were deceiving me, deceiving me..."

The corners of Kearney's mouth held a tragic twist.

Agnes was too shocked to utter a word.

It wasn't just Kearney who hadn't suspected a thing.

Phenix had fooled everyone, even her godfather.

Kearney murmured with the last of his strength, "Why didn't you keep deceiving me until the end? I'm about to die anyway, aren't I?"
