Agnes had a restless night.
Thankfully, she found some sleeping pills in the first-aid kit in her cabin.
After taking one, she eventually drifted off to sleep.
But she woke up early, as the first light of dawn crept into the sky.
Her cabin was in a prime spot.
It was on the top deck of the ship, with a floor-to-ceiling window.
Agnes poured herself a cup of hot tea, standing barefoot by the bed, waiting to catch the sunrise.
The sky was dark, but a hint of blue was beginning to emerge.
The sea breeze was strong today.
Even inside her room, she could feel the sticky saltiness in the air.
Finally, the sunrise came.
It was beautiful.
The sun burst over the horizon like a giant orange disc.
For once, Agnes felt at ease.
Amidst such a stunning view.
Her thoughts wandered back to watching the sunrise on an island in the Thousand Islands with Jared.
Just then, her phone on the bed chimed.
It was a message.
Agnes walked over.
It was from Elton.
Just three words: "I'm sorry."
Agnes paused for a moment, then realized Elton was likely apologizing for what happened yesterday.
After pondering for a bit, she replied with two words: "It's fine."
Elton was holding his phone, waiting.
He expected that given Agnes's usual demeanor, she wouldn’t reply.
In the past, if she got upset, she would shut people out.
But he was surprised by her quick response.
It wasn't an acceptance, nor an angry rebuke.
Couldn't restrain his feelings.
Elton clenched his fingers tightly.
His fingertips turned white.
But now he knew.
He had tested the waters and seen the outcome.
Elton resolved to let go completely.
No matter how tempted, he wouldn't ruin Agnes's happiness.
He had betrayed her back then, made his mistakes, and had to accept the consequences.
Elton adjusted his mindset.
He showered, changed his clothes, and stepped out.
Just as he opened his door, Agnes emerged from her cabin.
Seeing Elton, her face was unreadable. She simply said, "What a coincidence..."
Elton grinned, "I had a thought. This cruise ship has a surveillance room. I've got Nate hacking into the system to pull up all the corridor footage from yesterday. If Phenix and Kearney left their rooms, we can track down their cabin number."
