Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1255

Agnes never intended to keep secrets from Jared.

She had always been upfront with Jared about her plan to head to Australia to find Phenix.

But things happened so fast that Agnes hadn't gotten the chance to let Jared know she had already boarded the ship.

Agnes hurriedly explained everything that had happened.

Then she said, "Originally, there were four of us coming over, but we ran into the police here in Australia. Nate and Naylor distracted them so Elton and I could get on board to find Phenix and Kearney. I'm sorry, Jared, I didn't mean to keep you in the dark, I just didn't have time to explain."

Jared listened quietly without saying a word.

Though his face was just on the other side of the screen, Agnes couldn't quite make out his expression.

He showed little to no change in his demeanor, remaining silent.

Agnes felt a twinge of worry.

She asked softly, "Jared, are you upset?"

Jared finally spoke, "I am upset, but not because of Elton. It's because you keep getting into risky situations without me knowing. If anything happened to you over there, I wouldn't be able to help or find you."

Agnes breathed a sigh of relief.

She replied, "Don't worry, you don't need to help. There's no real danger. I'm just here to find Phenix and bring her back. I'll be back in two weeks at the latest, so don't worry about me."

Two weeks felt like an eternity.

But now that she was already on the ship, there was no turning back.

Jared said, "I don't mind you looking for someone, but you have to promise me you'll stay safe. No matter what happens, don't put yourself at risk. Your safety has to come first. If anything happened to you, I'd never forgive myself."

Agnes saw how serious Jared looked, almost like a child.

Agnes frowned slightly and walked over.

Seeing her, Elton broke into a grin. "Looks like things are really good between you and Mr. Whitfield, Agnes. I'm genuinely happy for you. I could never measure up, but Mr. Whitfield seems like a good man."

Agnes noticed Elton's flushed face and the way he spoke, realizing he was a bit tipsy.

Elton felt the alcohol too, having just downed an entire bottle of whiskey.

He had intended to get drunk.

Because drunk, the sight of those two on the video call didn't hurt as much.

Agnes and Jared's every word was crystal clear to Elton.

In front of him, Agnes was cold and distant, but with Jared, she was playful and carefree.
