Elton frowned and turned around. "Jenny, I'm warning you, don't mess with her again."
Jenny laughed. "I haven't even done anything yet, and you're already this protective?"
Elton stared at her silently. "What do you really want?"
But Jenny just sauntered closer.
Her hand slowly rested on Elton's chest. "I've asked you out so many times, and you've always dodged. Just a mention of her name, and here you are, rushing over. But, Elton, pining for her is pointless. She doesn’t care about you, not even a little."
Elton grabbed Jenny's wandering hand and threw it off forcefully. "What happens between her and me is none of your business."
With that, he turned to leave.
Jenny looked visibly upset. "Elton, don’t bite the hand that feeds you. I'm not the same Jenny you could push around before. You're struggling with that Moon Bay project, aren't you? Just ask, and I can get you the government approval you need."
Elton frowned, looking at her intently.
A smug look flashed across Jenny's face.
Elton replied sharply. "Jenny, don't bring the child into this. You don't deserve to. After all, you tricked me, secretly had a child, and then used her to threaten me. When you realized she was of no use to you, you shipped her over like a commodity. Do you know she arrived nearly suffocated, took months to recover, and now has lifelong health issues requiring constant medication? Even animals don’t harm their offspring. You're utterly heartless."
Jenny's demeanor changed.
"You have no idea," Jenny said. "I was severely depressed back then. I told you about our child, but you refused to see me or acknowledge her. What was I supposed to do? Without citizenship or a social security number, how was she supposed to grow up and survive in Manhattan? I was so desperate, I thought of ending it all for both of us. But in the end, I believed she'd be better off with you. I was living in a slum, penniless. The $500 for the airfare was all I had left. You've never lived like that; you can't understand my despair and pain."
Tears streamed down Jenny's face.
