Agnes even doubted if Phenix had fallen under their spell too. She was torn with uncertainty. But it was a gamble she had to take. Heading downstairs, it wasn't long before she spotted Bain. To her surprise, Bain seemed taken aback at her presence.
"Miss Septima, I thought you had already left?"
Clearly, Bain was out of the loop. A flicker of hope sparked in Agnes. She rushed over, "Bain, can you get a message to my godfather? Tell him Kearney is a traitor. That's all you need to say."
"Mr. Kearney, a traitor? What do you mean, Miss Septima? Are you feeling alright? You're not making any sense."
Agnes pressed, "Bain, there's no time to explain. Just do as I say, please."
"I'm sorry, Miss Septima, but we have a communication blackout on the island. We can't contact the outside world. Is the master in danger?"
"Bain, listen, I need to get off this island. Is there a yacht or something I can use?"
Bain seemed just as anxious, "We have one, but it was out of commission. Just got repaired a few days ago. Do you need to leave, Miss Septima?"
A wave of relief washed over Agnes. There was a chance to escape.
Soon enough, Jarvis did show up. The two men behind her remained still until Jarvis made his appearance, then they reached inside their jackets. Agnes yelled out to Jarvis, "Run, Jarvis, just run!"
As soon as she shouted, the two men drew their guns and fired in his direction. Jarvis, quick on his feet, dodged their shots, overpowered them, and even managed to disarm them. He sprinted to Agnes's side. But then, from all directions, more men in black swarmed in, as organized as a military unit. Agnes told Jarvis, "You go ahead. Find a place to hide. Don't worry about me."
"We'll leave together."
"No, they won't hurt me. I'll only slow you down. I need to stay. You'll be safe, I'm untouchable for now, but you'll be dead if they catch you. Hide, and find a way off this island. Go to Serenity Hall, look for my godfather, or find Jared."
