Jared said, "I have to head back tomorrow. Are you coming with me?"
Agnes shook her head, "I’d like to stay in the Capital a bit longer. My godfather's at Serenity Hall now."
Mentioning Reggie made Jared fall silent, as he took a sip of his red wine.
After a long pause, Jared finally asked, "How is he doing?"
Agnes replied, "Physically, he's almost recovered, but emotionally he's not the same. This incident has really taken its toll on him."
Jared remained quiet, saying nothing more.
Agnes then asked, "Do you want to visit him tomorrow before you leave?"
Jared turned away, "Why should I? Reggie and I... we’re not exactly close. Besides, I have an important meeting to attend back home."
Agnes sighed inwardly. She knew the meeting wasn't the real reason Jared was avoiding the visit. Even now, Jared struggled to understand his place in Reggie's life.
Sometimes, Agnes found it perplexing. Reggie cherished all his foster children, except for Jared, to whom he was inexplicably cold, barely speaking a word.
Agnes always felt Jared was innocent in this. Deep down, she knew Jared longed for Reggie's acknowledgment. But...
Agnes sighed again.
Aware of Agnes’s identity as the underworld's Princess Septima and Reggie’s most cherished daughter, the manager couldn't afford to refuse her.
Ultimately, he agreed to let her in.
Before entering, Agnes instructed, "Don’t mention my visit to my brother. I’m just here for a quick look. He’s busy, and he probably doesn’t want to dredge up the past."
The manager nodded, "Got it, Miss Septima. Don't worry."
Once the manager left, Agnes stepped into the banquet hall. Memories of that night flooded back, the screams echoing in her ears as if they were from ghosts.
Agnes felt a chill run down her spine. She didn't want to remember, but she had no choice. She had to convince herself to move forward, step by step, into the hall.
