Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1129

Elton smiled, "Even though Agnes and I never became husband and wife, I know I hold a special place in her heart. We've known each other since we were kids and were in love for over a decade. I believe she won't forget the memories we've shared."

"So what? Some people's ten years are nothing compared to my ten days with her. In this world, aside from her grandmother, I'm the only family she has, not to mention our son. She doesn't need those who've hurt her before. Mr. Taylor, take this not as advice, but rather, a command—stay away from my wife."

The two men locked eyes in silence. The tension in the air dropped several degrees.

"Honey?" Agnes's voice suddenly called out from not too far away.

Jared and Elton both turned their heads. Elton frowned slightly, but Jared walked towards Agnes. He stopped in front of her, and she whispered something in his ear. Jared then went inside.

Elton remained where he was, standing alone. Soon, Agnes was standing in front of him.

"Agnes," Elton called out softly.

Agnes spoke, "I just had a chat with Riley. Do you know why they wanted to see me?"

"What did they say?" Elton inquired.

Agnes chuckled, "Nothing much, really. They just felt that your reluctance to get married all these years was because of me. They say it takes one to cure the heart, Elton, am I your cure?"

Her question was direct and candid. Elton, taken aback by her frankness, hardly knew how to respond.

Having cleared up this misunderstanding, Agnes felt a weight lift off her shoulders.

Agnes then broached the past, "Actually... I've forgotten a lot of things, truly. Sometimes, I try to remember certain things on purpose, but I just can't recall them. I did go through some tough times back then, but meeting Jared was a stroke of luck. Every day with him feels like a balm to all past hurts. Elton, I believe you'll find someone like that too."

"Thanks for the good wishes," Elton responded, though his voice betrayed a hint of bitterness. How could he possibly find someone like that? Maybe true love does exist in this world, but Elton doubted he'd be fortunate enough to experience it twice.

But what could he do? He had no one to blame but himself.

Agnes looked up, "By the way, have you kept in touch with her over the years?"
