Phenix was bubbling over with excitement as she shared their future plans. Their Australian home was all set up, and her godfather had even gifted them a vineyard as their livelihood for the latter part of their lives. Sean had finally hung up his boots as a mercenary, and she had left behind the glitter and neon of Eden Nights, the nightclub where they first met. After a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs, they were finally able to be together. No one could have predicted the outcome.
Jared sat on a bench in the hospital corridor, his hands clasped in front of his lips, trying to maintain a facade of calm despite the worry creasing his brow deeply. Suddenly, the surgery room doors burst open, and a nurse hurried out, "Does anyone here have AB blood type? The patient is losing blood fast, and we're running low on supplies."
Without hesitation, Jared stood up, "I do. Take my blood, please. I'm his son."
The nurse glanced at him, replying, "Direct family members can't give blood due to the risk of Graft-versus-host disease. It's rare, but like rabies, it's nearly always fatal. Is there anyone here who isn't a direct relative but has AB blood type?"
Elton stepped forward, "I'm AB and not related. Take my blood."
"Alright, come with me for a quick check-up," the nurse said, leading Elton away.
"If I find out who did this, I'll tear them apart," Naylor swore.
The danger to their godfather receded, allowing Agnes to breathe a sigh of relief, but her heart was torn in two. Sean was dead, hit by 17 bullets. He had shielded Agnes with his body, likely not even having a chance to say goodbye. The pain of losing a loved one so suddenly, helplessly, was unimaginable, a nightmare that would haunt Agnes forever.
Agnes was also staying in the hospital, recovering from the trauma. When Agnes visited, she found Phenix awake, though Kearney was busy dealing with the police and wasn't there. Four nurses were stationed in the room, two at the head and two at the foot of the bed, likely precautions Kearney had insisted on, fearing Phenix might attempt something drastic, especially since she had nearly jumped off the balcony before.
