Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1016

Jared paused for a moment, seemingly taken aback: "Then, I'll give it to you."

"I don't need it," Agnes huffed and walked out of the office.

At the doorway, a group of busybodies hadn't dispersed yet.

Opening the door, they saw roses scattered all over the floor.

It was clear that the two had an argument just moments ago.

While they felt a pang of regret for the golden roses strewn across the floor, they were equally shocked.

Ever since Jared stepped into the TV station on his first day, the gossip mill had been working overtime.

Jared was previously a legend rarely seen outside of the financial newspapers.

And now, he was here at their TV station, working as a mere assistant.

The whole station was buzzing with rumors that Agnes was juggling relationships between two successive chairmen of the Tim Group.

This juicy piece of gossip was let slip by Agnes' arch-nemesis, the former head of the News Department.

As unbelievable as it sounded, the rumor seemed increasingly plausible.

Agnes had no work in the afternoon.

Plus, the weekend was just around the corner.

"Alyssa, please stop being so stubborn. Why can't you let go of the past after all these years? If only you'd turn around, you'd see I'm still here waiting for you. But you just won't give me a second glance."

"Mr. Thomas, if you came here just to say that, then you can leave," Alyssa's voice was calm but icy.

"There you go again, always so cold to me. When I mentioned divorce, it was in a moment of anger. I just didn't expect that your decision to marry me was influenced by something Michael said. Alyssa, I have my pride too. A single soft word from you, and we wouldn't have divorced. Ryder wouldn't be in this state, looking neither human nor ghost. He's just like you, stubborn for the sake of a woman!"

"Enough, Cilian. I did think of making our marriage work, but you were the one who acted petty and jealous, convicting me without cause. I owe you nothing. Ryder is stubborn because he is my son. If your other sons weren't so disappointing, would you even think of my son? Don't be so hypocritical, Cilian. We're too old to play these games. I, Alyssa, have never wronged you, so you have no right to blame me."

Cilian was silent for a while, seemingly sighing, "You're the only one who dares to speak to me like this."

"That's because you've been put on a pedestal for too long, sitting on the throne of Asia's richest man. I bet you've hardly had anyone around you who speaks the truth."

"Alyssa, don't be so harsh on me. I've been trying to win you back for years, but you never gave me a chance. You started your own business. With a market as promising as Willowbrook Town, why did you insist on moving to the Capital?"
