I refused and said, "Anyone can help me, but not you. Everything you do is under the control of the Dunn family. If you help me, the Dunn family will still think you are the one who built the company, in spite of any efforts I put in."
Benjamin was silent for a long time before he finally compromised and asked, "Can you do that? The public servants aren't allowed to be involved in the business."
I answered, "I'm just curious to see how far I can go. I wanna do something of my own."
It was a career that I wanted to build for myself, regardless of gain or loss. Bottom line, I got the Shears family to back me up.
I was doing this to show the Dunn family that I could be suitable for Benjamin!
Now that Benjamin has agreed to what I wanted to do, I would discuss it with Joel next. If there was no problem, I could get my hands on it.
I donated most of the money left by Julienne to the kindergarten Edith grew up in. I had 1.4 million left in my account.
All of the money was gotten back by Benjamin from Steve.
Benjamin sent me to the police station. He stopped the car and stretched out his hand to pinch my cheek and said softly, "I know what you mean. You want to make yourself look good in front of my parents, but Em, you don't need to do that. No matter what their ideas and decisions are, you'll be my wife! Don't feel stressed."
"Benjamin..."
I just feel that my dignity was trampled by others. I didn't care about the Heaney sisters, but the Dunn family was his family.
"Call me Ben." Benjamin flicked his hand on my forehead and said softly, "You're pregnant now, so don't take those things too seriously... I don't know why I'm saying this to you. You won't listen anyway."
Ben... I used to hear Victoria call him Ben, which pissed me off, but I couldn't do anything about it!
"Don't worry, I got it."
Benjamin rubbed my head and said, "I have to go back to the Dunn family tonight, so I will leave this car for you to drive back."
"Didn't you just go back last night?"
Since he had separated himself from the
Dunn family, how come he went home so frequently recently?
"I once left the Dunn family, but the Dunn family only has one son, me. Five years have passed now and I eventually have to go back to inherit the family business!"
Benjamin explained, "No matter how reluctant I am, I can't ignore the Dunn family. After all, it is my legacy for my son."
I smiled and said, "Well, do what you gotta do. You can take the car. I'll take a taxi home."
"I'll leave it to you."
Benjamin held the back of my head with his palm. He stretched out his head and gently kissed on my forehead and said with a smile, "Tell my daughter that daddy will be back tonight."
I found it funny. Benjamin sincerely hoped that his little girl would be fine, which made him even much gentler to me than before.
Benjamin opened the door and left. I took the key and got out of the car and saw Laurelie leaning against the door.
I was stunned. "How long have you been here?"
"Tell my daughter that daddy will be back tonight"
With a bright smile, she said, "Since that sentence, more or less." "Sorry you had to bear through that." I smiled and said, "Thank you for what you did to the Heaney sisters yesterday."
"Thank them for being b*tches. Nobody talks when I talk." Laurelie reached out her hand to touch her neck and said, "Bob should have told you what kind of person I am and I think you would know I've already taken down quite a few notches yesterday on them."
Bob did tell me about her but he didn't tell me that she was a straightforward girl who would stand up against anything she thought was wrong.
I smiled and asked, "Is it your nickname, Cherry?"
"Well, it's all my father's fault." Laurelie said helplessly, "If he hadn't given me a name as stupid as Laurelie, a lot of people would've saved themselves a beating."
Zack reminded me of this.
Compared to her name Laurelie, Cherry did sound much cuter. But it didn't fit her at all.
I grinned and went to the police station with her.
As soon as we entered the police station, we ran into a colleague. Laurelie directly pointed to her face and said, "Officer Nguyen, the makeup on your face is ruined!"
Saniya's face darkened. "It's none of your business!"
Laurelie said, "I didn't say it was my business! Right, I heard that you've been getting off work early recently, and the man who came to pick you up is your first love. Does your husband know about that?"
Laurelie started to gossip.
I reached out and pulled her arm as Saniya retorted, "That's my friend. Cut your bulls*it!"
After saying this, she left in a hurry with a pale face.
After she left, I asked Laurelie, "How do you know that it was her first love who came to pick her up?"
"Do you wear that heavy make up to see a friend?"
Laurelie looked down at her black nails and said, "She's the rat in the station. Keep your eyes open for her before she reports you, She's already done that to a few dozens of people around here."
Following her line of sight, I suddenly understood. Saniya had already done that to her because of her nail polish. What kind of people would do that? Didn't she have better things to do than turning her colleagues in?
However, compared to Saniya, Laurelie had actually messed up more people at the station.
When I went to Zack's office to hand in the documents, he looked at me with his deep eyes. After a long silence, he asked, "How have you been recently?"
He said that he would pay attention to his behavior in the future.
So he kept a distance from me until now.
To be honest, I was too selfish.
Janse asked, "I heard that your friend is investigating the Heaney family?"
"It's nothing personal towards the Heaney family but a standard investigation on an enterprise."
I was all alone so I didn't dare to say too much.
I was afraid that he would go mad again!
"Standard investigation? I'll tell you what, there's a better way than that called silencing whoever's involved."
I could hear Janse's faint threat!
I glared at him and said, "Do you think the Heaney family and the Solange families have what it takes to go up against the Jenkins and the Shears?"
"What do you mean? What's the relationship between the Shears family and you?"
Janse's face was gloomy. I said with a smile, "The person who is investigating the Heaney family case is the head of the Jenkins family, and she is Joel Shears's woman. The child in her belly is the grandson of the Shears family. Do you think you can go head-on with the Jenkins and the Shears?"
Janse said, "Ha, let's give it a try then!"
"Try what?" Joel's voice suddenly sounded, and he asked in a cold voice, "Who do you think you are threatening?"
Janse's face turned pale, and then he said with a smile, "It's between me and her. Excuse me, then."
Joel ignored him.
After he left, Joel said, "If you just said you were a Shears, he wouldn't dare to threaten you."
"There's no point in telling him now," I said, holding a glass of water. There's something I need to ask of you."
I told him my thoughts, and Joel agreed and said, "If you are willing to start from scratch, I'm OK with it. After all, it's better to let you do something on your own than let you directly take over the business!"
"So, you're willing to help me?" I asked in surprise.
"Of course, you are my only sister."
I was dumbfounded. He was very nice to me, but I couldn't tell her about September. I promised September that I wouldn't tell him.
"Joe, there's something I'm hiding from you."
I hope he wouldn't blame me in the future when he found out about it.
"What is it?"
"It's still a secret."
Once September had thought it through, she would naturally tell him.
