Gorgeous Couple’s Sweet Love novel Chapter 60

Julienne's departure was something I never anticipated. I was still in shock in my heart and couldn't speak for a long time.

After a long time, I asked with tears: "Bob, my mother..."

"She bled to death." Bob reached out and patted my shoulder, comfortingly said: "Emma, I'm sorry."

I closed my eyes: "I want to see her for the last time."

Bob helped me to the morgue. I reached out and lifted the white cloth covering her, and saw her look hideous and painful.

Julienne had been fighting with others her whole life, no matter whether it was a neighbor or anyone. All her life, she acted as she wanted and treated others in the same vicious way.

She always lied to put money in her one bank card, and she never spent too much of it. But all the money... What was the purpose of saving all that money? I blamed her, hated her, but pitied her even more.

I took her hand and shed tears and said, "Mom, you have treated me very badly since I was a child, and you have been beating and scolding me after growing up, so I hated you for many years. You never really had a place in my heart. And that day... I only said that I was your daughter anymore so that I could live a few peaceful days. I'm sorry."

She couldn't hear anymore. No matter what I said, it was useless. I reached out and wiped my tears and said, "Let's go and see my stepfather."

My stepfather is still in a coma. After all, Julienne was the woman he loved in his heart. It was a blow beyond description to him.

In fact, no matter how bad Julienne was, no matter how others hated her, my stepfather was the only man who would protect her.

Julienne has been very worthwhile in her life. She controlled the two men, 01' Shears and my stepfather, and she even beat and scolded them all she wanted. 01' Shears and my stepfather would not care about what she did to them and never even complained.

I told Jeanie: "No one will argue with you now. When your dad wakes up, don't speak ill of Julienne to irritate him. Help him get through this."

Jeanie said unpleasantly, "I don't need you to tell me that."

I went back to the ward, feeling distressed. Bob handed me my bag and said, "I just went to Elysia to collect evidence and saw your bag, so I brought it here for you."

I opened my bag and took out my phone to look at the time: "It's almost four AM already. You have to go to work tomorrow, so go back and rest."

"Zack told me to take care of you." Bob pared an apple for me and handed it to me to explain: "I will wait for you to sleep before leaving. Zack's still on the case."

I took the apple and said, "Charlotte's probably gonna turn herself in and confess everything."

Bob asked: "How do you know?"

"Charlotte is a lunatic. She is the kind of person whose sole purpose of life is her revenge. She killed my mother and wanted to kill me. She gave all of her property to the two men. She didn't even think about running away at all." I squeezed my phone tightly and said in fear: "If it weren't for Zack..."

If Zack didn't come to rescue me, then I...

I was literally on the verge of death, and my heart was full of fear. Bob didn't know how to comfort me. He suggested: "Emma, don't be afraid, do you want me to get September?"

I looked up and asked, "September still doesn't know about this, right?"

Bob explained: "I called her earlier but I couldn't get through. I can go to her house now..."

I shook my head and interrupted Bob and said, "Don't tell her about it. She's got s*it up to her neck herself too."

Bob nodded: "Then wait until she goes to work."

I nodded and said, "I'm gonna take a nap, you can go back."

"Okay, good night."

When I woke up early in the morning, my body was exhausted and sore. I opened my eyes in a daze and felt a terrible headache. I turned my head to see Zack sitting next to me and asked, "How are things going?"

Zack stretched out his hand to tidy the bedding for me, and replied softly: "Charlotte confessed and everything's over."

I asked anxiously: "Where are the two men?"

I could almost still feel how the two men kicked and beat me.

"They are in custody. This case will go to court and a specific trial will be held. Charlotte should be sentenced to death." Zack looked at me and explained: "She bought guns illegally, and... she's probably gonna spend the rest of her life in prison. But she's gonna get a mental check-up from a doc. If she's diagnosed with mental illness, she won't be sentenced to death."

"Zack, I..." I looked at him in horror, and guessed: "I am a psychology major. I can tell you for sure that she's got mental problems and she's most definitely paranoid!"

"Well, I will let you know the progress of the investigation." Zack stretched out his hand and rubbed my head, and said softly, "Don't get yourself too worked up by this. We can take care of the funeral tomorrow."

I was grateful: "Thank you."

According to the police department's regulations, Julienne's body was to be kept in the morgue for a few days before being cremated after the investigation by the police station was completed, but Zack said that it could be handled in the next day... He was always thinking about me.

"Zack, I have always been a little puzzled. Based on my knowledge of Charlotte, she wouldn't have accepted the compensation. She said that someone from the station threatened her. Was it you?"

"Edith, wait for me."

I was startled, Benjamin just called me Edith, he...had he finally been willing to face the fact after so long.

I hung up the phone and closed my eyes. I wanted to sleep, but my mind was like a roaring lion, tossing and turning.

Benjamin just said, "Edith, wait for me."

Although he sounded like the most gentle man in the world, but I knew his sudden gentleness was for Edith, not me.

So that was how much Benjamin loved Edith five years ago. He loved her so much that his usual coldness would vanish the second he thought she was in danger or feeling lonely or any other negative emotions.

I got lost in thoughts for three whole hours. When I was about to get up to go to the bathroom, the ward door was suddenly pushed open.

I stared at him. Benjamin was as handsome as ever. He looked at me with panic in his eyes, then he pushed me into his arms, and said softly and gently: "Edith, I will never leave you again."

His aroma was familiar and cold, I was taken aback, and pushed him away to remind him: "I am Emma, not your Edith. I am not her. You might think I am but I don't have her memory. That makes me different."

Benjamin stretched out his hand and hugged me into his arms again, "I know that you are Emma, but you are also Edith. But it doesn't matter. You are the woman I love."

I was shocked again, what was he saying? He had never talked like this.

I asked with some vain hope in my heart, "Do you love me?"

Benjamin gazed at me and said, "Of course. Otherwise, why would I look for you for five years, regardless what others said to or about me? If I don't love you, why would I be angry with you?"

I lowered my voice and asked, "Why are you angry with me?"

"You were my fmacee but you never told me your real name! If you had, we wouldn't have been separated for five years!"

So that was what he was angry with?

I pursed my lips and said, "Benjamin, I want to get a divorce. I was never a person to turn a blind eye to anything in my world. You should know that since you know how much Steve begged me not to leave him after the divorce. And you___I admit that I loved you from the beginning, but what we have is nothing but a deal I can't expect so much! I really didn't have any fantasy at the beginning, but you spoiled me with sweet words again and again, giving me false hope, a hope that we could really have a stable life together. I really did, despite all the other women around you. But you took that hope from me right after I thought it was real and even used the Edith think to get angry with me. Is it because I lost my memory? So you treated me so coldly and even left me all alone in Cietin?"

The corners of Benjamin's lips curled up, and the more I talked, the more I felt aggrieved, but seeing him like this, I asked, "What are you laughing at?"

"Are you done talking?" Benjamin stretched out his hand and gently stroked my swollen face, and said unconvincingly: "You always make yourself scarred, why didn't you call me last night? Even if I was angry with you, I would still come to you. Also, I apologize to you for being angry just because you lost your memory. I shouldn't have turned my back on you just because you want warmth from me."
