Gorgeous Couple’s Sweet Love novel Chapter 136

I suddenly remembered what Benjamin had once said. He said that I had been wasting Zack's time, saying that I had already spent seven years, so I didn't care how many more I would waste.

Now thinking about it, I felt very guilty.

I really have wasted Zack's time, but... there was no one but him who can put down everything to accompany me at any time and any place.

When I arrived in Ireland, I immediately went to the hospital with the address given by my aunt. Emy was having an infusion by the time we got there.

Her small face was pale, and her big eyes were wide open. She was beautiful-with the deep eyes of Benjamin, thick and long eyelashes, and a pair of eyes that were as dark as the infinite cosmos.

Her face was so beautiful that it made me pleasant whenever I looked at it.

I couldn't believe it was the face of a girl who had only been born for three months.

But this was my cold, so I took it for granted. I waited at the door for two hours before the doctor took her out and put her in my arms. I carefully held her, afraid that anything could happen to her. Seeing this, Zack smiled helplessly and said, "The doctor said that her fever is gone, so you don't have to be so scared."

"I just am, Zack."

I said with sadness in my heart, "I can't get to her immediately every time she is sick, and she is still so young, I don't even get to watch her grow up."

Zack took the child from my arms and said softly, "She will understand you."

Zack was very tall and stalwart, which made the child in his arms seem even more delicate. He slightly lowered his head and played with Emy, making her giggle.

I thought that if Benjamin was holding her, he would be more cautious and nervous.

After all, this was his beloved daughter.

Zack and I brought the child back home. When my aunt saw us, she said, "I just left the hospital early to get documents for my two grandchildren. How's she doing?"

"Her fever is gone. We have to go to the hospital tomorrow to have a check." Zack sat on the sofa with the child in his arms. I asked my aunt, "When will my two nephews go to the United States to study?"

"In about two months." Aunt explained in a helpless tone, "I originally wanted to take Emy to America to take care of her, but the two children thought I was too nosy, so I will stay here. When Emy reaches school age, I would go to America to take care of the two children."

"They wanna go to America just to get away from you. It's understandable. Give them some time on their own, they would benefit from it."

Hearing what I said, my aunt smiled and said, "Yes, your cousin said the same thing. She said the two boys would be totally fine over there alone."

She then said, "The neighbors all praised Emy for her beauty. All your cousin's friends like Emy so much. She would take Emy wherever she goes now."

My cousin's friends were all engaged in politics. They all have relatively high positions in the government. It was actually a good thing that Emy could grow up in such an environment.

That night, Zack suddenly asked me gently, "Do you remember the past? When you were sick, you liked to cling to me."

I was stunned and looked at him blankly.

Zack said in a gentle tone, "Em, I envy Benjamin, because the people he loves also love him, and he's got a son and a daughter. But I got nothing. Before Emy, I didn't care about it. But looking at her starry eyes makes me think. I also want a woman who loves me and a child who calls me father. I've started to crave for certain things."

"Zack, I'm sorry."

In the end, it was me who had dragged him down.

Zack's fingers stroked Emy's cheek. He lowered his head and looked at her with a sigh. In a low and hoarse voice, he said, "You have been trying to get me with Laurelie. In fact, you don't know that I once wanted to be with her for a moment, but... Em, she carries faith and glory on her back. She is both real and straightforward. But she is 11 years younger than me. She is suitable for anyone but me."

"Are you afraid?" I suppressed the joy in my heart and asked softly, "Zack, you like her, don't you? You just think you don't deserve her, don't you? Are you just afraid of delaying her?"

Zack shook his head and said, "She is the same as you when you were young. She is competitive but doesn't understand love. She only wants to conquer others because that's what she does. If I show even the slightest sign of submission, she will stay away from me."

"How?" I gasped in surprise.

"She will, she is still young." Zack put Emy in the cradle and said in a faint voice, "I know her."

I roughly understood that Zack had been lonely for 31 years, so he was willing to get himself a woman now. And a girl happened to appear beside him, who made him happy. But the girl stood at the top of the light, which made Zack deeply afraid.

I shook my head. "Not at all."

The waiter served a bottle of red wine. I poured a glass of wine and took a sip. Then I explained, "You give Zack the feeling that you don't care at all. As if you don't care if he responds to your feelings or anything else.

That makes Zack helpless, making him think this is just a joke to you, or a game."

After a long silence, she poured herself a full glass of red wine and drank it in one gulp. Then she squinted her eyes and said, "You reminded me."

I was stunned. "What?"

Laurelie poured another glass of red wine and drank. "You're right. Zack is a conservative man, and I... I'm too active and enthusiastic. He might have realized that I wasn't all that serious about him at all."

Laurelie said in a low voice, "But this is just who I am. I love him, I've loved him for six years. But his indifference hurts me, even if I don't show it. Just like the way my dad put it, if I can't the man I want, I don't deserve to be a Weier. My mom also said that persistence was all it took for her and my sister to get their husbands. So I thought whatever was mine would be mine in the end."

Laurelie's mother and sister were weird people. However, I did believe that persistence was essential to get men as cold as Stanley and her sister's husband. But Laurelie was still somewhat shy when she was dealing with Zack, whereas Zack was more conservative than those two men, not to mention the fact Zack already had someone in his heart before Laurelie.

This was the reason why it was so hard for Laurelie and why Zack was so stubborn.

I felt guilty for wasting Zack's seven years of youth. I was really terrified by what Benjamin said about me wasting his whole life. But fortunately, there was Laurelie.

There was no absolute love. Zack might still have feelings for me but I knew they were more about his promises, not something that would exist for a lifetime.

Love did not last forever, it needed to be just right.

"Laurelie, it's true that Zack hurt your feelings half a year ago, but you can rest assured that he cares about you now."

I felt that I could not betray Zack, so after hesitating for a while, I said, "I can see that he cares about you, and he also feels guilty about what happened half a year ago."

Laurelie asked, "Did Zack tell you this?"

There was a tinge of expectation in her tone.
