The terms sounded attractive, but I smiled and said, "It's work. There's nothing I can do. But I'll bring him back a gift."
Benjamin stared at me for a long time, as if he wanted to see through something. He stared at me with his black eyes and asked, "What about my gift?"
I smiled and said, "Well, if you give me money, I will bring one for you. Since you are my ex-husband, I'm not gonna charge you for anything extra."
This time, Benjamin was completely silent.
That night, he hugged me, and I slept in his arms. I looked at the darkness fading outside and the first ray of light popped up into the sky. I didn't feel sleepy at all.
In his arms, it was difficult for me to sleep.
I would never feel safe again!
I remembered that I used to have a hunch around him that he would abandon me at the end. I didn't expect that this had actually become true. Now I also had a hunch. I had a hunch that he was entangling me and just because wanted to play, just wanted to see me look more down and out.
He was waiting for me to drop off my guards and then gave me the hardest blow.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
How on earth would he be willing to let me go?
Just how badly was he going to hurt me?
Benjamin was very confused when he opened his eyes. After he closed his eyes for a long while, he asked in a slightly hoarse voice, "What time is it?"
I said lightly, "Six, my staff will go to work in two hours. I think it's time for you to leave."
Benjamin rubbed my cheeks and went to the bathroom. When he came out, he picked up the white shirt on the ground and put it on. His slender fingers were buttoning the shirt and he said, "When will you leave City B?"
"3 p.m." I lied.
Benjamin answered with an "Alright" and asked, "Where are you going?"
After a moment of silence, I lied again. "The UK," I said.
Benjamin stopped and didn't ask any more questions. After he left, I went to September, but the maid told me that September left.
Panicked, I asked, "Where did she go?"
Where could she go alone?
"She said that you should call her by this number."
The maid handed me a phone number on it. I dialed and asked directly, "Where are you?"
September smiled and asked, "Do you still remember Patrick?"
Patrick was the name of the Austrian handsome man.
"You're in Austria?" I asked in surprise.
"Well, I'll use the rest of my life to be unbridled," she said.
I closed my eyes and asked, "Do you want to be with him?"
"He's willing to spend a few months with me, and I... I'm willing to spend a few months pursuing the pleasure of my body."
September said in a faint voice, "I can tell you honestly - I love Joel, but I wanna give whatever time I have left to a soul that I really can rely on. Patrick doesn't love me much, maybe not at all, and neither do I. But at least we can please our bodies."
"What are you thinking, September?!" I said anxiously, "Joel can give you whatever you think he can give you, why bother..."
"I know he can, but I can't afford it!" September smiled and said, "Don't worry about me. The doctor said that if I'm in a good mood, I can still live a little longer, and that's exactly what I'm doing now, making myself happy! Besides, it's not easy for me to convince Patrick to come here to me. Don't make things difficult for me. And the Jenkins family will officially belong to you after the New Year."
September had her own decision, and I really couldn't intervene. I was silent for a moment, and she said, "I am now living with Patrick in a hut beside this lake. He is swimming in the lake with two dogs. He smiles very brightly and has the ability to cure me."
September said, "Emma, I hope there will be a miracle, but I don't want the miracle to be given to me by Joel'."
She said repressedly, "I want to live, I want to live to see Neil grow up, and Patrick really can cure me. I want him to be with in for as long as he can, or I can."
I said, "You gave a lot of expectations to Patrick."
"He takes good care of me," she said.
I was happy for September. At least she was happy now, but I was sad for Joel because he was ignorant of September's illness even now and no one can tell him.
I hoped that there will be a miracle for September, but what was the probability of a miracle? There is no such thing as a miracle in thousands of people who suffered from the disease she was suffering from.
September actually placed all her hopes on a miracle. How... desperate was she? I knew that she couldn't bear to part with this world. I knew that she was very sad, but I couldn't help her at all.
When I went to the villa to visit my grandfather, he was coaxing Neil in his arms, and his face was full of kindness... A cold young man would always grow old to be kind and amiable.
Grandpa was so good to me and Joel, but he was so cruel to my father and mother.
Apart from me and Joel, there was no one else left in the Shears family. Joel told me that his parents left home long ago because of our grandfather.
No one knew the exact reason.
It had become a mystery of the Shears family.
When Grandpa saw me, he said bluntly, "Why did you send Emy to Ireland?"
"Where am I supposed to send her to then?" I asked, smiling.
"To me, of course! I got nothing to do anyway! And her being here would give you one more excuse to come to this house!"
I explained softly, " Ireland is a beautiful place, and my aunt has got two sons who are both more than ten years old. That is a comfortable and healthy environment for Emy to grow up in. Besides, Emy could learn both English and French there, since aunt's husband emigrated there from France. All in all, she's better there than being with me."
"Em, repeat yourself from the beginning to the end!"
According to his request, I told him everything about September from the beginning to the end. Anyway, I couldn't hide it, so I quit fighting and blurted everything out. There was nothing he could do now anyway.
But when I saw that he was sad, my heart was painful.
After all, the man in front of her was Joel, my brother who doted on her.
Joel silently asked with tears, "So she transferred the shares of the Jenkins family to you? That's why she refused me all the time?"
I didn't know what to say. Joel asked me with red eyes, "I have always loved you and doted on you, but you kept it from me!"
I put my arms around his waist and cried, "September told me that I couldn't tell you under any circumstances. I had struggled myslf many times, but I just couldn't."
Joel asked in a sad and decadent tone, "Where is she now?"
"I don't know."
"I'll ask again, where on earth is she?"
"I really don't know. Don't ask me!"
Joel reached out and grabbed my shoulder, shouting in a low voice, "Please tell me where September is now, Emma!"
I screamed with tears gushing out of my eyes,
"Austria! She's in Austria!"
Joel asked, "Where in Austria?' "I don't know. I really don't know where she is. Besides, she didn't say that she would stay in Austria."
Joel asked, "How did you get in touch with her?"
I took out my mobile phone and said, "There is a number."
Joel called right away but the phone was turned off.
I knew that September had seen this coming so I gave the number to Joe.
Seeing the expression on his face, I said, "She is fine now."
And she had someone with her.
She was not as lonely as Joe had imagined!
Joel took me to the Shears Group and drafted a document for me to sign. I shook my head and refused, "Don't do this!"
"Em, I don't want the company anymore. I just want to be with her... Can you do at least that for me?"
