Goodbye, Mr. Regret novel Chapter 523

On this point, Sandra agreed wholeheartedly with Sallie.

“Sheila, Sallie’s right. Kids don’t know any better. If their ideas go astray, it’s up to the adults to guide them. If you just indulge them, you’re only letting those bad habits take root, and before you know it, one mistake leads to another.”

Sallie’s criticisms didn’t bother Sheila much; she knew Sallie had never liked her, not since Timothy almost married her years ago.

But hearing it from Sandra—that was different. Sheila had always respected her adoptive mother, who claimed to love her as if she were her own. Yet whenever something came up between Timothy and Sallie, Sandra would always take their side.

“Mom, I’m sorry. I’ve never been married, never had children, so I really don’t know how to raise a kid. I just thought being kind and indulging him was a way to show love. You’ve set me straight today. I’ll do better from now on.”

Sheila’s tone was humble and sincere, so much so that Sandra’s heart softened with sympathy.

“As long as you understand. One more thing—Timothy doesn’t seem willing to divorce Jessy yet. He’s doing everything he can to win her back. For now, don’t contact Timothy, put your work on hold, and stay here at home for a while.”

“Alright.”

Sheila agreed, but her heart felt unbearably heavy.

No matter how much you try, an adopted child never quite measures up to the real thing.

Outside the Zimmerman estate, Jessica stepped out of the house with a gentle, serene smile on her face.

Yates couldn’t help but glance her way a few more times.

That part of his heart that hadn’t known warmth for so long suddenly felt a spark—an urge to cherish someone, to hold them close and never let go.

Jessica slid into the car.

Vince had chosen a cozy little bistro with soft, golden lighting that spilled warmth all around. On a snowy day like this, the place felt inviting and peaceful—a perfect refuge from the chill outside.

They sat by the window, where they could watch the snowflakes drift lazily down, making everything outside look like a watercolor painting.

It was the first time Yates had spoken to Jessica without prompting. He handed her the menu. “Take a look—see what you’d like to eat?”

His voice was calm, relaxed, with a lazy sort of charm that was oddly reassuring. Maybe it had something to do with the way he’d grown up, loved and cared for by his parents—everything about him just radiated an easy confidence.
