Sylas felt as though all the bones in his body had shattered in that moment, but there was an ice-cold chill that remained in his eyes—especially when the sneer on Authrione’s face froze and he roared out in pain. What should have been a flexible liquid feeling no less harsh and grating than solid earth at his speed.
Even so, he flipped back onto his feet with a single kick of his heel, spinning through the air until he landed on the tips of his toes and glided back to a stop.
His body flickered with motes of emerald, but now there was something new there. It wasn’t the violet of his E-Grade Scorpion Warlord Armor, but instead something else.
A silvery blackness. The silvery-dark hues of a second 100-Foundation Aether.
In that instant when his tail had been about to strike, Authrione, Sylas already knew it didn’t have the toughness necessary to pierce through. The limitations of the Scorpion Tail’s strength were too restrained, and Sylas wasn’t foolish enough to believe that Authrione didn’t have some way to boost his Constitution.
Fathomless Depths increased Constitution by a full elevenfold, certainly taking it well into the seven digits. But no one fought with their Comprehensions as quickly as Authrione did—nor Sylas, for that matter.
For Sylas, it made sense; he had no choice. The opponents he fought were too powerful.
Authrione, however, was likely doing so because his Luck was high enough to warn him about Sylas, and he didn’t dare take things lightly.
This meant that under usual circumstances, Authrione wouldn’t be relying on his Comprehension to boost his Constitution, but instead something else.
Knowing that, Sylas knew it was even more impossible for his tail to cut Authrione’s body, and his previous attacks had barely left scratches.
So, Sylas used his second Aether. There was no reason for battle to be any different from a game of chess. The more tools he had at his disposal, the more methods he could use to force his enemies into a corner.
First, he cast several Glassvolt Runes and then used Spatial Casting to compress them. The explosion of poison ate away at the Domain of Fathomless Depths, which was sustained by Authrione’s Will, allowing Sylas not only to get in close, but to actually land strikes that could move the latter’s body. Without this, let alone exchanging blows, Authrione could probably stand still and let Sylas wail on him without suffering a single scratch.
Then Sylas descended into a series of combined strikes, making himself seem almost desperate, as though his main plan was to find an opening to strike with his tail.
Authrione was a member of a Sanctum—he understood the abilities of the Scorpion, and he had already experienced Sylas’ poison just moments ago. He could easily guess what Sylas wanted to do, and he would be wary of it… Or he might try to lure Sylas into a trap. Which he did.
What he didn’t know was that Sylas had another way to cut into his body: an Aether no less powerful than his Glassvolt Aether, a chaotic spatial Aether capable of piercing through great defenses.
Alone, neither could do much to Authrione. The heavy Water Aether Sylas had sensed him using several times had 97 Foundations.
There was a huge gap between 97 and 100. However, Sylas didn’t have Water Aether, and he was hiding his spatial Aether in order to spring it at just the right time. As such, his Aether Suppression wasn’t as effective against Authrione.
Plus, oddly enough, Authrione’s Aether had some restraining properties against Sylas’ lightning, despite being Water Aether.
However, together… it was a different matter entirely.
His Glassvolt Aether and his Chaotic Space Aether sliced into his body. Together, they bored such a small hole that Authrione didn’t even notice until he suddenly felt himself being eaten alive from the inside out.
Authrione’s Will stat was beyond Sylas’. When the two of them used their Comprehensions to boost their Wills, Authrione’s was still superior.
However… Authrione didn’t have a Marked Will.
When all those factors came together, it was obvious who would come out on top.
Authrione’s eyes began to spark with emerald lightning that wasn’t his own—the backlash of the poison eating into him. He was still nearly at 100% strength, but how long that would last was unknown.
