From Sneers to Cheers: Anthea’s Ascent (Anthea ) novel Chapter 542

“Impersonate?” A mocking smile flickered across Daniel’s face. “It’s Anthea who’s been pretending to be Rebecca all along! Rebecca’s simply too kind to hold it against her.”

Hector could barely stop himself from slapping some sense into Daniel right then and there.

He was infuriating—so stubborn, so convinced he was the smartest person in the room, even with the truth right in front of him.

One of these days, he’d end up tangled in his own web.

“Here. This is a video of my idol racing yesterday. See for yourself who was behind the wheel last time. You want to accuse my idol of impersonating Rebecca? You’ve got some nerve!”

Hector tossed a flash drive at Daniel, then slid into the car as the driver started the engine.

Daniel retrieved the flash drive from the pavement and climbed into his own car, plugging it in.

Sure enough, it was a racing video—shot from above by a drone. The driver was clearly Anthea.

But so what? Did a single racing video prove Anthea hadn’t been impersonating Rebecca?

She’d been living under Rebecca’s name since childhood, and now she was up to her old tricks again.

She had no conscience.

What did it matter if she was talented? She still couldn’t hold a candle to Rebecca.

Fuming, Daniel slammed his laptop shut.

...

Anthea didn’t hear about Sandra’s death from carbon monoxide poisoning until the next day.

Regardless of everything, Sandra had once cared for her—or at least, for the person she now was. Now that she was gone, Anthea knew she ought to pay her last respects.

She dressed in black from head to toe and drove to the funeral home.

Something about all this felt very wrong.

Anthea’s gaze shifted to Rebecca, still kneeling and weeping inconsolably. She narrowed her eyes.

Just then, the sharp sound of footsteps echoed through the room.

Daniel strode in, his anger flaring as soon as he saw Anthea. “What are you doing here? Crocodile tears? You’re not welcome!”

If it weren’t for Anthea, Sherman and Karen wouldn’t have turned so completely against Rebecca.

Rebecca looked up at Daniel, her voice hoarse from crying. “Daniel, Anthea’s only here to pay her respects to my mother. You shouldn’t say things like that.”

Anthea’s lips curled slightly. “Aren’t you tired of putting on a show every day?” She turned her gaze fully on Daniel. “And as far as I know, I’ve never done anything to you.”

Daniel shot her a cold look. “You’re the real actress here. Do you even know who Rebecca is? She’s Sherman’s fiancée. I suggest you stay away from him—and stop coveting things that were never meant for you.”
