From Ashes of Scandal to His Embrace (Laurinda) novel Chapter 518

“I never imagined you’d be so young, Adolphus. Honestly, I thought you’d at least be in your thirties. You don’t look a day over twenty-something…”

Adolphus caught the hint in Thurston’s tone. He could’ve called him a rookie and meant it. Adolphus chuckled quietly.

“Are you doubting who I am? I’ve never heard of anyone trying to pretend they’re me. Do you need some time to check if I’m really Adolphus?”

Thurston was no fool. He’d never actually question Adolphus’s identity. His shock came from meeting someone so young who commanded this much respect. As far as he knew, no one dared fake being Adolphus anyway.

“No, of course not. How could I doubt you? I’m just curious why you called me here tonight. What’s so important?”

Thurston forced down his misgivings. The confidence radiating from Adolphus made it impossible to doubt him any longer.

“Take a look at this first. We’ll talk after you’ve read it.”

Egan dropped a folder right in front of Thurston, then flipped the room’s lights on for him.

The sudden brightness made Thurston squint, needing a second to get used to it.

He opened the folder, flipped through the documents, and felt cold sweat sliding down his forehead. His fingers couldn’t stop shaking and he stared at Adolphus, stunned.

“Adolphus, I… what did I ever do to you? You’re basically sending me to my death here…”

“It’s not that dramatic. I just wanted to give you a gentle reminder. Your daughter’s been acting a little too out of line and she upset my fiancée. If you can’t keep her in check, I won’t mind teaching your whole family how to behave.”

Adolphus’s words hit Thurston like a bucket of ice water. A thought crossed his mind, and he looked up.
