From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 478

One of the guys stood up too. He’d been watching Laurinda earlier, and something about the way she took the test bothered him. She barely glanced at the problems and wrote down her answers without showing any calculations. There was no way she wasn’t cheating—at least, that’s what he thought.

“I saw you. You didn’t work out any of the math. You just wrote the answers like you already knew them. That pretty much proves you cheated, doesn’t it?”

Laurinda didn’t rush to defend herself. She just set her backpack down on the table, sweeping a calm, almost frosty gaze over the three of them. Then, she let out a soft laugh.

“So, this is what passes for critical thinking at Cabinda University? Did you work so hard that you lost common sense? This is the first time we’re even meeting. You can doubt my abilities, I get that, but do you really think your professor would risk his reputation for someone he barely knows? Have you ever once heard anything shady about him?”

Her words seemed to knock the fight out of them. The three stood there, not saying a word, but that stubborn, angry look on their faces hadn’t faded. It was clear they just couldn’t trust Professor Ladd—or maybe they just couldn’t deal with the idea that Laurinda had done something they couldn’t.

Honestly, they just thought there was no way Laurinda could do what they found impossible. They were used to being the best, the ones at the top, and even if someone else was good, that gap shouldn’t be so huge. Not unless something fishy was going on.

When they still didn’t answer, Laurinda’s smile took on a sharper edge. The words that followed only darkened their expressions.

“Looks like you really don’t trust Ladd at all. That’s fine, I’ll make it easy for both of us. From now on, consider yourselves unwelcome on Ladd’s team.”

She shook her head, almost amused. “It’s funny, really. If you couldn’t finish the test, maybe you should look at yourselves before pointing fingers. Just because I think faster than you doesn’t mean I’m cheating.”

“When I see numbers, the answer just comes to me. Is that so impossible to believe? Are you going to accuse everyone who goes on The Brain of getting the answers ahead of time, too?”
