Foley’s words didn’t do much to relax Laurinda. Her brow stayed knit together, her voice sharp. “Why didn’t you just pick up the medicine in Apex? Why go all the way to Cabinda?”
Foley froze, looking unsure. His boss had made it clear he wasn’t supposed to talk about what was happening in Apex, so now he just stood there, searching for a way out.
Laurinda wasn’t having it. “What’s going on? Is there trouble at the airport?”
Foley glanced at Adolphus for help. Adolphus understood Laurinda well enough to know she wouldn’t let this go, so he answered for him.
“Finn’s people have taken over the airport in Apex. He’s trying to get his hands on Bonnie’s medicine, to force you into letting his son go.”
“He knows he can’t do anything at the hospital, so he went after the medicine instead. As soon as we found out, we changed the flight and brought it to Cabinda.”
Laurinda just laughed, cold and low. She couldn’t believe Finn still had the nerve to mess with her. Even now, he was pushing his luck.
“I need your computer.”
“Use the study. It’s unlocked.”
Adolphus didn’t bother asking what she was planning. He could see how angry she was, and honestly, he’d rather let her vent online than have her storm back to Apex and go after Finn in person.
Once Laurinda was gone, Adolphus turned to York and dropped his voice. “You didn’t say anything to her about what’s happening in Apex, right?”
York shook his head, looking serious. He hadn’t said a word.
If Laurinda ever found out Finn was copying her own tricks, trying to kidnap Bonnie just to use her as leverage, she would be on the first flight back to Apex to tear him apart.
