Her father… her father had actually hit her?
Growing up, Mr. Hart had never so much as spoken a harsh word to her, let alone raised a hand.
Mr. Hart was trembling with rage, pointing a finger at her nose as he spoke with a voice full of fury.
"Is your brain made of mush? Do you have any idea what kind of situation this family is in?!"
"The company's finances are about to collapse! I spent the whole night groveling to those investors, and not a single one of them gave me the time of day!"
"And you're still thinking about a birthday party? An even bigger one? What am I supposed to pay for it with? By selling this house?!"
It was the first time Mr. Hart had ever been so furious with Lilian.
She completely broke down, letting out a loud wail.
"Now you're tired of me, is that it? You think Grace is better than me now, don't you?!"
"You were the ones who said it! You said I was the Hart family's little princess, that you would always love me most and cherish me!"
"You were the ones who said Grace was a jinx and told me to stay away from her!"
"So what's changed? Now that you see she's latched onto someone powerful, you've all changed your tune!"
"You're all liars! Liars!"
Her cries grated on the ears of every Hart family member present.
Cassian watched her coldly, his eyes filled with undisguised disappointment and disgust.
Lucian ran a hand through his hair in frustration and kicked over a nearby chair.
Sabrina opened her mouth to say something but snapped it shut under Mr. Hart's murderous glare.
Mr. Hart closed his eyes, his face etched with exhaustion. His voice was hoarse.
"From now on, you will behave yourself in this house. If you dare cause any more trouble, you can get out."
Without another word, he turned and went upstairs.
In the living room, only Lilian's heart-wrenching sobs and the wreckage on the floor remained.
The pearl that this family had once cherished, once its true owner—Grace—began to shine, was finally revealed to be nothing more than a cheap glass bead.
